    Spacious walk in aviaries
We spent the afternoon here because it was a great chance to see some birds up close, especially parrots which were hard to see in the wild because they are fast fliers! The Papuan Lorikeets were adorable and we also saw a Pesquet parrot in the same aviary. There are Raggiana Birds of Paradise who were displaying in the afternoon around 3:30ish. Staff are friendly and will call a taxi for you when you are ready to leave.

    Amazing animals, beautiful garden setting.
This place is an absolute gem. It's PNG's only zoo and a major conservation success story. The Australian couple who took it on managed to keep it going during the very lean Covid years when there was very little money to feed the animals or keep up the breeding and rescue programs. The birds are amazing: the bird of paradise, the crowned Victoria pigeon, Pesquet's parrot and more. Interesting to be reminded that New Guinea and Australia were once part of Gondwanaland and share same species, many present here: marsupials, snakes, turtles, saltwater crocodiles....

I read about this place in the Destination Papua New Guinea magazine and wow…. What a hidden secret.

I am usually in PNG for work and don’t spend of my time frequenting local sights, and I’m kicking myself for not seeing this place earlier.

It has an awesome setting in gorgeous, safe gardens. See local animals in very sanctuary-like settings. Great gardens and a fantastic coffee shop

Thanks for visiting the Nature Park. Our cafe is now run by Gateway Hotels & Apartments, one of Port Moresby's leading hotels so the cafe food quality and service is exceptionally high and enables the Park to also provide function catering for park events and customer venue hire bookings. I also love the cassowaries! We have one of the largest collections of cassowaries in the world. Many of these have been rescued from the Park after living in very poor conditions so to be able to walk around on the raised boardwalk, amongst our rainforest and see the cassowaries is pretty special. Thanks again for visiting and look forward to seeing you back soon.

Visited this little park a few days ago as they were opening and had it to myself (except for keepers). It is very peaceful and cool under trees. The animals were all pretty active and I was able to get some good shots. All of the workers were helpful and friendly. Go!

Thank you for your wonderful comments on TripAdvisor. Great to hear that you were able to get some good photographs. Our animals are most active morning and late afternoon - outside of our peak hours which are in the middle of the day, and particularly over the weekend. Our staff are always happy to share the Nature Park with guests so I am glad to hear that you were happy with their service. Thank you once again for visiting Port Moresby Nature Park.

We live in Port Moresby and visited the Gardens when we first arrived four years ago and were appalled. We felt unsafe and uncomfortable at the horrendous living conditions of the animals. I had the pleasure of revisiting just over a month ago (late June early July 2012) and can only say how astounded I was.

The current managers of the Port Moresby Nature Park have transformed the place. Most of the old and run down cages are being replaced, there is a brand new walkway through the casowary exhibit which culminates in a fabulous enclosed walk in gazebo which over looks a water feature that the casowaries love. You feel safe and secure as you walk around. There is bright new signage that points out various exhibits and areas.

The staff are happy and friendly. We had a great talk to Michelle and Brett about what was happening, the upgrades, the animals, what they have in store for the future. It all sounds incredible and to think they have achieved this amazing success in the two years they have been in Port Moresby is outstanding.

Only those that live in town can possibly know the uphill battles they must face trying to educate the general public as to the importance of this park and enhance this little piece of tranquility for the betterment of all.

Well done guys, we will be back.

Between flights and need something fantastic to do? A trip to the Gateways hotel for breakfast. A taxi ride 80 kenna to the nature park (Taxi will wait for an hour). 10 kenna entrance. A spectacular well kept nature park. Elevated walkways through the rain forest, exotic animals, cus cus, tree kangaroos, iguana, fruit bats, wallaby's etc. Fantastic birds to view in a huge aviary. Crocodile, pythaon etc. and a huge range of orchids and palm trees. All in a tranquil setting, that is well maintained and managed. A must for all travelers in this area.

Had several hours to kill before late afternoon flight to Manila. Went with friends from cruise to Park. Make sure that you use bug spray before entering park. We used park guide to help us see everything in 90 minutes. The park is home to thousands of fruit bats that fly around and hang upside down in the many trees. We saw snakes, many birds of paradise that are difficult to see in wild, tree kangaroos and wallabies, parrots, cassowaries, hornbills, and kookaburras. Thoroughly enjoyed the excellent. Park has nice cafe.

Thank you for visiting the Nature Park and taking time to comment on TripAdvisor. We are glad you were able to see a range of PNG's amazing animals when you visited the Nature Park. A trip to the park is certainly a great way to get a good representation of the animals, plants and culture of PNG, particularly if you are time poor and don't get to travel all over this amazing country. Thank you again for visiting and I am glad you made the trip and had a wonderful time.

The animals are well cared for, lovely ground, good little cafe. A must visit, close to the city. The tour guides give some great knowledge and give you time to look before moving on. There is a fabulous bat colony.
I would love to see more birds of paradise alive in their care, regretfully there are so many dead animals in the craft markets.
Great value, great staff and a great day out.

Thank you for your visit and wonderful comments on tripadvisor. We have been working very hard to build the Park and are proud of our recent accreditation by the Zoo and Aquarium Association of Australasia as an International Animal Welfare Accredited Zoo and Aquarium, the first time a PNG facility has ever been audited and passed. We agree that it is sad to see so many of PNG's unique, endangered and iconic species dead for sale in the craft markets. We run school excursion programs to over 24,000 school children annually and a big focus of our programs is on the younger generation not supporting the trade of wildlife. Thank you once again for visiting the Nature Park. As a charity, your visit helps us to continue our education programs, animal rescue and rehabilitation projects and to continue to build a facility that genuinely showcases how amazing the biodiversity of this country truly is.
