We saw several dolphins during taking the ferry from Johan en Margaretha and Fort Nieuw Amsterdam. This was not the short ferry trip most people do.

My header description says it pretty much all; the water's muddy and disgusting to be honest, but the dolphins you get to spot if you're lucky (they appear most of the time) are beautiful and entertaining. for the rest, if it's clear weather and windy, you'll really get to enjoy yourself more than usual.

With the warm weather it is already lovely to spend the afternoon on the river, but spotting the tons of dolphins, makes this a great thing to do. They might not be the easiest animals to make photos of, but it is great seeing them swimming in groups. We saw tons in the Commewijne and Suriname River. A must to do while staying in Paramaribo!

The river trip is a great day out. Starting off we saw river dolphins.enough of them but none really close up. Then off to The river mouth and back calling at the New Amsterdam Fort via a walk through an old plantation, now an hotel. Lots of birds en route including the beautiful scarlet ibis
Great way to spend a day

Off we went on a local boat to see the pink belly dolphins. It took a little time but we did see them. There were 3 that kept jumping out of the water. It’s worth doing but there are no guarantees you will see them.

Very Attractive. Every visitor and also inhabitants of Suriname must do the boat trip to see these dolfins.
If you are on the water the dolfins know that you want to see them because they swim around the boat .

This is a great experience if you have an evening in Paramaribo! Our guide started the tour by taking us to a local plantation along the river where we tasted cherries, bananas and fresh coconuts right from the trees. We then cruised back down the river to a spot where we saw multiple groups of dolphins, some very close to the boat and even jumping all the way out of the water. Highly recommended to get a feel for the local way of life along the river and to enjoy a beautiful part of nature!

Most google searches for Dolphins tours in Suriname list several tour operators with varying prices of USD $30-40, it includes the dolphin tour, a plantation visit and drinks, however, if you wish to just see the dolphins you can make your way to Leonsberg anytime during the day, buses work from Paramaribo to Leonsberg, I am unable to say what the fare is, but it may just cost about $3 SRD person, but the buses are far and few, on the other hand a taxi from the waterkant food area may cost about $25 SRD, you need to negotiate with the driver, upon arrival at Leonsberg head down the wooden jetty (watch your step), there are several boat operators, they will take you to see the dolphins, one boatman wanted $300 SRD for my wife and I, but he came down to $250 SRD with some negotiating, the tour was about an hour and we saw several dolphins, it was really amazing and interesting, taxis is a bit difficult to and from Leonsberg so the earlier you go may be better, walk with your cameras, camcorders and gopro.
