Starting in 1861 Paraguay built a railway line from Asuncion to Encarnación, a distance of 376km. In 2006 the train was given up in favour of road and river transport. Thus the former railway station of Asuncion was turned into a museum, one of the...More

I’m not a huge fan of trains or the technology around it but there’s a lot to see here if you’re interested in history. It Would be great if they showed a short video somewhere to show you the history, or even something to read,...More

The history of railroads in Paraguay is very interesting, and this small museum captures the flavor of its times. Definitely worth a visit if you're in downtown Asuncion and have any interest in railroads, or even if you don't

Though not a polished museum, this is well worth a brief visit if you have any interest in trains or colonial-era history. There are many interesting antiques, the most fascinating of which is the old dining car that you can pass through that looks as...More

If you are walking around downtown Asuncion, you should visit this Museum. It will remember you all the old times of the trains and the ways the people travel from one place to another. it will be a short visit but you will enjoy it.

The former main train terminal for Asuncion. I visited the museum and have to say it's more spectacular on the outside than it is on inside but still nice. It's only 10,000 to get in and I was the only person there so had it...More

Housed in the former station, the story of Paraguay's railways, now no longer operative, is well told in photographs, documents and a whole host of small exhibits. The original platform houses one of the tiny original locomotives. There are somewhat derelict coaches on a site...More

Entrance costs 10,000 Gs per adult (less than $2.00) and the items on display are very cool! From old phones and telegram machines, to old train carriages. Would definitely recommend paying a visit

Asuncion today is very different from those "golden days of yesteryear," when the elegant old central station now housing the museum was the hub of Paraguay's steam railway system. This makes a visit to the railway museum a good and interesting thing to do but...More
