but I didn't actually go inside recently. Did tour the landmark way back in 1993. Seemed pretty decent back then. Still, I took some photos from the Marriott Hotel.

Harder to get in here than in Ft. Knox and the result is so disappointing. With all the lighthouses in the world- you can easily miss this dilapidated run down one!

The view when you get up top is nice, but the lighthouse is very old and it's 20+ flights (roughly est.) to the top and the stairs are steep.

Walking past the Marriott Hotel we came here to have a look at the river mouth, where the brown water of the Demerara flows into the sea and coloring it brown for quite a distance. It was a quiet Sunday with not many people around. The shoreline looks a bit messy, but one could see fisherboats on the water. At the back was the big landmark of this part of the city: the Georgetown Lighthouse, an octagonal structure, about 30m high with red and white stripes. Access was not possible, when there, so we had to content ourselves with the exterior and a useful information board, which tells about the quite long history of the construction, once erected to help ships enter the river.
