The Botanical Gardens are quite spacious, breezy and nice to relax at on a cool day. The trees and plants are mesmerizing particularly for a nature-lover visiting for the first time. There is definitely a lot to explore!

The Botanical Gardens, which are quite old as these things go, has become known for its bird watching by overseas visitors. Although established as a formal garden, much of it has reverted to a semi-wild state which is why I guess that it provides so much habitat for a large variety of birds. Other animals, such as the large lizard called the salipenta (Tupinambis teguixin) can sometimes be seen. For locals, one of the main attractions is the collection of manatees (Trichechus inunguis) housed in large ponds. They are large gentle vegetarian aquatic mammals and children are naturally drawn to them. Apart from that, and the zoo housed on the same premises, the gardens are just a relief from the growing noise and congestion of the city. Oh, and on Saturdays it's favourite venue for wedding party pictures.

Spent our last day of a birding trip in Guyana in these gardens. For such a popular place for the locals (it was the weekend) we saw an amazing variety of birds, some for the first time in the trip!

Excellent place for birding in Georgetown, with a guide who can ensure visitor's safety. We arranged an early morning tour through Wilderness Explorers with Carlos, highly knowledgeable and professional. We have seen 70 species in 3 h. The company ensures your safety with additional security.

It's a great place for walking around. It was Valentine's Day so there were many couples wearing red and white, which was quite interesting to watch. Many families with kids and people having pic-nics. You can see some animals, such as manetees and you're allowed to feed them (which I don't think is a good idea, but still you can)There's also a small zoo that's worth to visit. I felt sorry for some of the animals, because the cages are quite small. Some of the cages shows the history of the animals, some of them were rescued from mistreatment. There's also a small farm with dunkeys, rabbits, chicken and guinea pigs. You can buy fruits to feed them. It'd be great for kids.

I was in Georgetown and visited the Botanical Gardens on September 25, 2014, with a great local bird guide, Andy Narine, head of Guyana Amazon Tropical Birds Society, and his team, which included his driver, and his spotter, Curtis. They are exceptionally well informed about birds and are great at spotting birds by sight and calls, and do an impressive amount of work on environmental education. They brought a telescopic lens and tripod, and Curtis was quick setting it up so I could get a 'bird's eye' view of toucans, parrots, kiskadees, hummingbirds, and macaws, as well as migratory birds. Andy is an expert birder and has worked with the Smithsonian and has extensive knowledge of birds in Georgetown as well as the Amazonian interior of the country. I didn't keep a count, but in the space of just an hour and a half in the Botanical Gardens, bet we saw 50 different species of birds. And a family of monkeys. It was a great experience and I felt completely safe with these guys in the park. You can contact them through gatbs@yahoo.com or call at 592 682 0739.

They are supposed to open the gates by six thirty but sometimes they are late. We have had a few run ins with scary people but we're never hurt. We loved to walk in the gardens and saw lots of variety of birds and animals including monkeys, manatees, cayman. The zoo is primitive by US standards but the animals are nice to see though a bit cramped.
