This stunning church will impress you before you even walk in the door for its beautiful design, which is colourful without being too much. The interior is the same, glorious and vibrant but still serene. It makes for great photos, and indeed immediately made my list of favourite churches around the world.

Also known as the National shrine of Our Lady of Carmen, this most striking church is recognized by its distinctive red-and-white striped façade that continues unabated inside. It was finished in 1938 in venerated Gothic style, influenced by Byzantine and Moorish touches. Architect and priest Buscaglione designed this church and others in Colombia. Awarded a National Monument designation in 1993.

Probably my favourite church in Bogota, this absolutely stunning, colourful church is a must see, a short walk from Plaza Bolivar in La Candelaria.
The exterior is incredibly ornate and colourful with its white and burgundy blocks. Inside is just as pretty with high vaults and soft colous. So peaceful inside too

Incorrect information and extremely unhelpful staff. Listed as open 07.30-11.30 every day, it isn't. We strolled past several times within these hours, closed. Then open once, a man on the door in some uniform trying to close it mumbling Spanish. I ignored him. He then continued with his mumbling until we left. A Christian, hardly an example of one, someone the church should be ashamed of. Pity, its an attractive church, it just has hopeless information and horrible people.

Not many taxi drivers know this church, so ensure you show them the address multiple times.
The church is amazing with its decorations. I arrived at 1145am on a Saturday and I was able to get inside. I took a few photos and then left. Not much else to do, but very cool looking

The Church here is marvelously original in it's design and it is so evident. The variegated paintings and marking on the pillars present something completely out of the ordinary that I have never seen in a church or cathedral. The main alter is wonderful and the markings on the ceiling are simply stunning. The stain glass windows are beautifully designed and on the whole this church is one of the most picturesque and aesthetic that I have been to.

It is the difference amount the churches richesse in the Colombian Capital. You could breath the religious culture that takes part of the history of the city. Beautiful design, It is close at the Bolivar Place where the political powers share ideas to manage the country.

Really fun architecture and it was really cool to walk down towards what's also known as the "Candy Cane Church"

This is a beautiful church - very unique in its decoration of red and white stripes both inside and out. It sounds garish but actually is very tasteful. We just stumbled on this church while strolling around La Candelaria, and can't believe none of the guidebooks seem to mention it. One of the nicest churches we've been to in South America (and we've been to a lot!). Definitely worth a visit - I would prioritise this over the cathedral, which is nothing special.
