    Colourful!
This is a lovely part of Bogota. Think murals, museums, colour, hip coffee shops, handicrafts and more. A lot of tourist attractions are located here. Good idea to do a walking tour on your first day. Just watch valuables and avoid isolated parts especially at night.

Unique, vibrant and much safer than people think
I booked a hotel here with some trepidation having read that it is a sketchy area and one shouldn't go out after dark. Yes it is loud and grubby and there a few vagrants around, but it is also vibrant and interesting with cool murals, shops, and eateries and beautiful if somewhat run down historic buildings. It's also the best place to access all the main sights in Bogota. I would stay here again if I return to Bogota.

    The Old Colonial Area
Such a lovely place to walk: not big but with lovely buildings, churches, museums and the main governative buildings (that we can see only from afar as that part of the area is completely looked down. So many things to see. So many stands of local craft (maybe too many but the sellers do not harass) and a little road full of touristy restaurants. It is a lovely place indeed and so well restored.

Beautiful colonial houses and streets, with very hip boutiques and stores spread around. A lt of coffee places, and cafeterias, you'll find many graffitied houses and walls, but beautifully done, more like street art.
A lot of people walking around, it's very colorful.
You have to got to the Gold Museum, and Botero's museum. Visit the central plaza, and stop around the flea markets.
If you see a street cart with Buñuelos, please try them!!! they are delicious.

This area is very interesting. It’s colorful in houses and in life. It offer to visitors the possibility to see the old Bogota style of life. In a small shop you may find a lovely handcraft or in a tiny restaurant taste the old favor of Bogotá.

You have not seen Bogotá if you do not visit La Candelaria. It shows the history of the city and the country and has some fantastic restaurants and museums (the best in the city like the colonial art museum, the modern art collection of the centro bank (Banco de la República and the Botero Museum). You will need a good half day to walk around and enjoy. Best at weekends as it is busy during the week because of many government offices based here.

As a Youtube content creator, one of the things I like to do is go to where the real people of a given city live and hangout. Candelaria definitely has some tourists, but generally it's mainly locals who are out going to bars, restaurants or chilling. I really enjoyed walking along the small narrow streets with our local tour and learning about the history of Bogota which started as a small square in the area. I felt that the place was safe to walk around in and was able to meet some really interesting people as a women's performance art festival was going on at the time.

Veggie getting to Bogotá we’d heard and read so many folk saying that the city wasn’t interesting and could be skipped or “done” in a couple of days. We disagree.

La Candelaria was brilliant! You get to inhabit this bustling old town, mixing locals with travellers amongst bars, cafes, restaurants, parks, museums, and more. It’s good for those on a budget, and those happy to splurge.

The historic centre of Bogota, La Candelaria, is by far the nicest part of the city to visit. The central square, Plaza Bolivar, makes a good orientation point with its beauful Cathedral and plethora of nearby museums like the Botero and Casa Moneda. The Gold Museum is must see as well.
Avenida Jimenez and just off it has some good eateries and bars. The area is a bustling hive of shops and street vendors, I found it quite safe but I was warned not to be out too late and not to flash obvious signs of wealth, especially to watch out for phone grabbers.
Anyway, I spent almost call my time in Bogota in La Candelaria and loved it there.

La Candelaria is located in the downtown area of Bogota. It’s been a while since I visited last this area, and it was a beautiful surprise of how beautiful it has been renovated. The colonial architecture is just gorgeous. Plenty of museums to visit and wonderful restaurants. Bogota is definitely one of the most beautiful colonial cities in Latin America.

Our Overseas Adventure Travel group enjoyed this Baroque colonial neighborhood, with an excellent local guide. Narrow streets harken to a colonial time. Festive painted buildings enhance the flavor. It’s not necessary to have a guide but explanation about preservation and restoration of the barrio is a learning experience. In Bogotá, this is a must-see neighborhood ringed by towering mountains.

The centre of Bogota has been molested for various reasons, socio-cultural-economic and that splashes on the impoverishment of the idyllic historic centre. The "vendedores ambulantes" effect is smothering especially in the centre proper and the Plaza Bolivar, the fallen idol. Candellaria offers first class museums, some building structures that are not taken over by the glossy picturesque, a sense of the uphill theatricity of the town an fine churches

Loved the vibe, not at all edgy as some reviews suggest. That said, not a place to wander at night. Easy access to great museums, most are free or have concessions and are beautifully presented. The joy however is happening upon little bars and restaurants and taking a trip up to Monserrate.
