Definitely a must see for all those visiting Bogota.
Bogota is a beautiful city, and the government buildings look spectacular with the backdrop of the mountains. The way the buildings are designed makes for an iconic appearance. Anybody visiting Bogota owes it to themselves to pay a visit to the Square.

    Beautiful square.
The square is large and airy unfortunately 3 sides of it are covered for restoration so I couldn’t really enjoy the beauty of it. The side that is visible show a beautiful church and convent. There is a little market in the square.

    Prominent Heartbeat of the City
The heart of this city is also a pigeon paradise (wear a hat). The Greek inspired Capitolio Nacional is to the south. Opposite is the Palacio de Justicia, both significant buildings. On the west is the early 20th C French-style Alcadia (Mayor’s Office). The neoclassical 19th C Cathedral Primada is on the eastern side. Next door is the Casa del Cabildo Eclestiastico (City Hall) and the equally impressive Sagrario Chapel, the only colonial building there.

    Amazing building
Nice place to go and amazing architecture. The buildings are old but typical european style. Nice to go and sit down for a few minutes. If you go in the morning you can also find lots of carts with food, decoration items, etc., Fun to see all the items that they are selling and if you like you can bargain a little.

Bolivar Square is undoubtedly one of the most emblematic and representative places in Bogotá. Located in the historic center of the city, this square is not only a meeting point for Bogota, but also a must-see destination for any visitor.

Upon arrival, one feels immersed in the rich history of Colombia. The square is surrounded by impressive buildings that reflect colonial architecture, such as the Primada Cathedral, the National Capitol and the Palacio Liévano, which houses the Mayor of Bogotá. Each of these buildings has a fascinating story to tell, making it an ideal place to learn about the culture and politics of the country.

For foreigners, Bolivar Square offers the opportunity to enjoy cultural events, such as concerts and fairs, which are held frequently. In addition, it is an excellent place to observe the daily life of the Bogota, as well as to enjoy a delicious street food in the surrounding area.

I recommend that visitors take some time to relax in the square, enjoy the view of the pigeons and, if they are lucky, witness some artistic presentation or a special event. It is also an excellent starting point to explore other nearby attractions, such as the Golden Museum and Casa de Nariño.

In short, Plaza de Bolivar is a place that combines history, culture and urban life. It is undoubtedly a destination that will leave an indelible mark on those who visit it. Don't miss it!

After visiting and getting a photo taken with the llama (only about $5 usd), I started wondering who Simon Bolivar was. This led me to read about the life of the amazing “Liberator” of South America. I will now search out biographies written about him.

This is the most signature plaza in Bogota. We arrived around 9am on a Monday - the day after voting day - so they were still some leftover tents still around.

There are a ton of vendors in the plaza - early in the morning there were vendors selling corn to feed the pigeons and some llamas around for children's rides. Later in the afternoon, there were a ton of food carts selling drinks, fruit, baked goods, etc. There were also a lot of street performers in the plaza as well. We saw a high school marching band performing, which was really cool.

Do be careful of your wallets and phones, as it does get super crowded and I'm sure pickpockets around.

This is the main plaza of the city and is surrounded by some governmental buildings. Noted some small groups demostrators demonstrating here. One of the groups are the indigenous who came from a village. A great place for photo stop.

The main square in the city home to Catedral Primada on one side, Colombia’s Houses of Congress another and Palacio Lievano, now the mayor’s building a third side it is a large square with some impressive build-ings. But with no access to most and so large while being devoid of cafes or restaurants it would be bland were it not for the people on a weekend. Performers, stalls selling food, protesters outside their parliament building, families out for the day. Just a lively city square.

Was raining heavily during my visit but I had no regret busily finding shelter for the scattered pours.
It is definitely a must-see if one is here visiting Bogota.
Many heritage buildings and eateries to explore.
If you are tired, just stop by a cafe to "get recharged".
I found one and will post it under a separate post.

Named for Simón Bolívar, who led Colombia to independence in 1819, this enormous plaza is lined with significant structures, including Catedral Primada de Bogotá, Colombia’s legislative [congress] building, and the National Capitol. This of this as DC’s eastern side of The Mall. It is a lively, open area with spectacular mountain views. Street vendors and entertainers populate the space. Perhaps because of the January cold and damp, there were more pigeons than locals and tourists. The Plaza is the center of modern Bogotá. A must-see site.

A busy square full of tourists, opportunity seekers, and vendors. There are administrative buildings, statues, and a big cathedral where stately funerals are held.self employed vendors sell cell phone calls by the minute. Teatro de Christobal Colon is also here.

Plaza Bolivar makes for a great orientation point to explore La Candelaria.
It's a bit run down, yes, but still splendid in its own tired colonial way. The cathedral is a stunner and the buildings that line it have such character.
A few are in disrepair and the statue of Bolivar in the centre has definitely seen better days. With a bit of a face-lift it has such potential to be a try beautiful plaza.
Still, it's a great place to hang out a d has a good buzz about it by day anyway, I wasn't there by night.

The Plaza de Bolívar is an emblematic place in the history of Colombia. So that you know a little more about this place, the Plaza de Bolívar was first like a public market and at the same time a bull circus, currently it is a cultural place and, as I said, emblematic of the city of Bogotá in which the majority of tourists do visit the historic center of the city, framed by the buildings of Placio Liévano, the National Capitol and the Primate Cathedral.

Its location is in the historic center of Bogotá and it is the main square of the city which was also declared a Colombian National Monument in 1995 on October 19, to be more exact.
