This property has many stroies to tell and certainly worth visiting. - Jasmine38Chichester UKChichester, United Kingdom1,948 contributionsInteresting and worth a visit but rather priceyThis is the Finca occupied for 18 months by the infamous Simon Bolivar near the end of his life. Includes his sword which is actually formally guarded! Nice house to learn more about Bolivar and his key role in obtaining independence for Colombia and a number of other SA countries. Rooms and furniture of the European style. Beautiful gardens. Explanations available for most rooms and items in English as well as Spanish. One drawback is that it is expensive by Colombian standards as a ticket costs 11 USD for foreigners, although over 60s get in for free.Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten January 30, 2024

This manor features from period items and personal belongings of Simon Bolivar, but that is about it. The sword is a replica, the real one, is not accesible to the public. You learn very little from visiting the site, and even though it seems like there are audio guides I was never given the option and never saw anyone else use one.
The manor is surrounded by a rather poorly maintained botanical garden, which is shocking since I saw at least a handful of gardeners, but they were just standing in the corner looking at their phones, while only one was doing any work.
The entrence fee was 41.000 COP which is way to much. Colombians gets in for a small fraction of the price they charge foreigners, making it clear that they dislike foreigners visiting.

They charge in US dollars. The rate is not high for the US, but much higher than most other attractions in Colombia. They don't accept credit cards. Also, the signs are NOT in English, and therefore not accessible to many foreigners. The artifacts are very interesting. I suggest skipping it.

Before you go up Monserrate, don't miss a visit to the house of the Libertador. I especially enjoyed the collection of cannons and original canvas of portraits of Bolivar and Manuela Saenz. Plus the great gardens all around the beautiful house!

After you are tired of wandering around Bogota come here. This is a house that Liberator Simon Bolivar lived in restored in all its grandeur and simplicity. BUT the best part for tired tourists might be the cooling, tree protected gardens that are truly beautiful

We stumbled into this place on our way from the funicular and am glad we found it. Transports you back in time 200 years. A modest but delightful hacienda, with very pleasing architecture and a splendid garden. Stunning trees. An oasis of absolute calm in the midst of a huge and bustling city. We’ll worth a visit. Very reasonable entry fee.

My 18 year old son and I stopped by here after visiting Mount Monserratte. We both enjoyed it thoroughly. It is very inexpensive to visit this former home of Colombia's liberator, Simon Bolivar. The cost was only 3000 COP$ and the audio set was only an additional 1000 COP$. RENT THE AUDIO SET - IT IS WELL WORTH IT. It is available in English and is full of great information. There are numbered stations throughout the property and the audio tour takes you from station 1 on to Station 13.
I now know what an incredible individual Bolivar was and I have this museum to thank for it. And, besides, how could you not visit the former home of the George Washington of Colombia? Very easy to get to. Ask for directions to the teleferico/funicular for Mt. Monserratte and on your way to the funicular you will pass the mansion on your right just before the top of the hill which is where the entrance to the funicular is located. Allow yourself about 2 hours for this site. Have a light sweater or something handy because there is a lot of shade at the house and it can get a bit chilly (plus, the altitude is a bit higher there than down in the center of the city).

The home of the Liberator and the Libertadora, the energy that radiates from these walls and floors is palpable. For those who know history, this is a sacred place. Truly, an unforgettable experience to walk the same floors, to touch the same walls as some of the most remarkable human beings in history. Viva la libertad mi general!!!
