About
Colombia's oldest museum holds a vast collection of archeological artifacts, as well as modern art. The building itself is interesting — it's a former prison and many of the galleries are inside former prison cells.

This museum was an interesting blend of art, culture, and history. Especially liked the emphasis of indigenous people and the Botero collection from when he was still finding his style. They did not shy from their bloody past but tried to describe and explain it,...More

We went to the museum to view a special collection of the early works of Botero. The docent gave us a brief lecture before we entered the exhibit on the life of Botero and this information really helped us. The rest of the museum is...More

The Museum, which is located in a nice neighborhood, is worthwhile visiting if you'd like to lean more about the story of Colombia. It is housed in a beautiful building and some of the works of art are interesting and beautiful.

I had a couple of hours between two business meetings and my time was well spent. The displays had been well organized.

The museum has a very interesting layout in that it is intentionally arranged to invite dialogue and connections between historical points of view. It is not set up by time period or culture, but instead has artifacts intermingled to tell the whole story. True, that...More

I had never been here before. Fantastic art and historical pieces that explain much of the start of Bogotá. No flash photography. Spend about an hour and a half there.

There are some great pieces of artwork and Botero has some pieces here but the majority of the museum does not have English explanations. I would advise to go on a Sunday when it's free if you only speak English.

Some very fine artworks here - don't be put off by my headline if you're interested to discover Colombian artists. Botero works here are I think better than in the Botero Museum. Bernal was a great find - sensational 19th century figurative painter. Alvarez and...More

Yes, it is. Visiting on working days is preferred than going on the weekends. You can visit after 10:00 a.m. And I believe they close at 4:00 p.m.
