About
Colombia's oldest museum holds a vast collection of archeological artifacts, as well as modern art. The building itself is interesting — it's a former prison and many of the galleries are inside former prison cells.

Exhibits seem interesting but 95% of the museum is in Spanish...not a problem except foreigners need to pay $48000 compared to $6000 for locals. Pay more, receive less.

If you sell a ticket for foreigners, the museum should be suitable for foreigners.

Avoid unless you speak Spanish to a high level.

I’m sure this is a really nice museum, but as we don’t speak Spanish it was a bit pointless to walk through. While we could look at the artifacts, all of the signs around the artifacts were entirely in Spanish. Only a few signs around the different sections were translated. We used Google translate with the camera function to read some of them, but it became quite inconvenient to do that to every sign.

If you do speak Spanish, I’m sure it’s a great museum as their loads and loads of artifacts dating back hundreds of years to the very beginning of Columbia history. But if you don’t speak Spanish, I would probably skip this museum.

The National Museum of Columbia charges foreigners in US dollars. The rate is not high for the US, but it is much higher than most other attractions in Colombia. They also don't accept credit cards. Also, over 90% of the signs are NOT in English. The exhibits don't tell the story of Colombia and are a hodgepodge of items. I suggest skipping it.

Visited here for approximately three hours and still didn't have enough time. There is so much to see and learn about the history of Colombia (pre colonial to colonial/revolution and present day). Would visit again if given the opportunity!

Historical building, great location. But they only have Spanish placards and audio guides. What a miss! For a museum in the capitol city that boasts the country’s history you’d think they’d welcome all tourists and have options for multiple languages. We couldn’t figure out most of what we were seeing even with an Apple translation app.

The security woman at the entrance told me I can only pay for the tickets in cash. She told me it's 20,000 COP per person.

I go to a nearby ATM to take cash out. I take 50,000 - I get charged 20,000 for this transaction.

I go back to the museum ticket office and the lady tells me it's 40,000 COP per person.

I was pretty upset at this point.

I then see on the board that the entrance is 10 US per person. I try to give her 20 US for the two of us but she says they only take COP (despite the prices displayed in US!!!!).

You can imagine how angry we were!

You can't buy tickets online either.

The whole thing seemed a bit dodgy, the fact they don't take card payments.

This place is easy to see and it was free on the sunday I went. Lots of cool art and history to be learned. It was crowded with lots of kids all over the place unsupervised and if you like me it might be worth it to do it while the kids are In school.

The National Museum of Colombia is the oldest museum in Colombia. Its collection is divided into four collections: art, history, archeology and ethnography. Very rich in information, history and collection. You pay to access, but it's totally worth it. The facade of the museum is very top!!! It was worth the trip.

Of course for those that haven't seen a real museum or a museum in Mexico, the place looks good. In fact the place looks like a lot of stuff put together with no logic.... such a shame !

We loved this museum. So much art and history. In a former 120 year old prison. Two gorgeous patios. We took our Garcia Marquez books to read in patio on breaks. Nice Juan Valdez cafe. Skip Modern Art Museum for this one.
