Likely the city's "highest point" :)
Dec 2019
Visiting this site right after coming down Mount Monserrate, it was seeing "another panorama" of the city somewhat different from that from the top of Monserrate (although both city views "to the west") especially I would say when it comes to the downtown high-rises (kind of a "stretch view" of them from here as opposed to a "cluster view" from Monserrate), and yes also in a full clear view is Monserrate at just slightly down below not too far away. As for the Virgin Statue (my third statue of the Virgin on a mountain top after the one on top of Cerro San Cristobal in Santiago & the one on top of El Panecillo Hill in Quito, all 3 more or less comparable in size), I would just say it's the base of the Statue which "leaves to desire" being just a small simple structure with the Statue placed on its flat rooftop (compared to the big cylindrical bases of the other two with also some elaborate displays inside) although yes that small structure is part of the larger building which is this santuario with its most memorable feature personally for me being these "red crosses" on the exteriors of the windows (the building itself closed to the public except for the small part on one side like a small church or a chapel where I went in and sat briefly). And also worthwhile while here is to go around to the back of the santuario building for some "mountain views" (to the north & at a relatively close distance).

So yes, should not be missed if you're (like me) fascinated by mountain-top statues & city viewpoints (and this likely being the "highest point" of Bogota!), the "major inconvenience" though is its remote location where really pretty much the only way to get to coming on your own is by taxi and for a round trip to take you back down the mountain afterward (which cost me a "somewhat excessive" amount of over 100,000 colombian pesos or about 40 US$ for the ride for about 20 minutes from the bottom of Mount Monserrate then about 45 minutes spent here followed by the ride back for about 15 minutes to barrio La Candelaria), and so actually I wasn't much surprised at this site being a very quiet one with really hardly any visitor (which was in a "total contrast" to what I'd just experienced on top of Monserrate).

About 1000m above Bogotá. Excellent view of the city and Monserate. Beautiful trip through forest to reach the sanctuary. Security around, so safe. We went on Sunday, Mass is celebrated.

Stunning View of Bogota
Feb 2019 • Solo
This viewing point is an alternative to Mount Monserrate. It is accessible by cars (taxi will cost you 60,000 COP including waiting time). As oppose to Monserrate there are almost no people and you can take in the view quietly. Weather is tricky so when you see blue sky head up as viewing conditions can dramatically change very fast. Highly recommended..

Fantastic look out point

We had a car and could drive up the mountain which takes about 20 minutes from downtown Bogotá. I'm not sure if a would recommend getting there in another way. The views of Bogotá are better than from Monserrate as it's a bit higher up. There are plenty of small food stalls if you get hungry. It's over 3000 meters and can get pretty cold so bring a jacket.

Best view of the city.

This is a place that is not commonly visited. most visitors go to "Monserrate" but this sanctuary has far better view. It is mostly an isolated area that you can get to by a public blue bus that usually goes there during weekends and holidays or by taxi but for foreigners it is better if you may get a guided visit. The architecture of the sanctuary and the statu are impresive so don't hesitate to pay a visit. Not only is less crowded than the other mountain but it is also higher. which will give you the sense of owning the landscape for you alone. As it is higher don't forget to bring your coat. When the rain or the wind strike it will chill you to the bones.
