About
With Bogotá Bike Tours, you'll see Colombia’s capital the most fun and interesting way - on a bike! Starting in the historic La Candelaria neighborhood, we visit parks, plazas and monuments, but also see Bogotá’s troubles: poor barrios and people impacted by the nation's civil war. We can also arrange a tour tailored to your interests. Or, rent a beach cruiser or mountain bike and ride in the famous Sunday Ciclovía or any other day!

This bike tour with the owner Mike, and his assistant Omar, far exceeded expectations. We explored a wide range of fascinating part of Bogota that we would have otherwise never seen and genuinely learned a lot about the good and bad of Colombia's history and current situation. We came away feeling we had really explored and known Bogota and would highly recommend!

Excellent tour with very knowledgeable and friendly guide Daniel. In 4 hours we visited many places of interest including a very nice place for coffee where Daniel enlightened us on the production of coffee from planting to roasting. Much recommended!

My bicycle tour with Luis Carlos was FANTASTIC. He was very knowledeable, fun, incredible athlete and quite a character. I highly recommend. We conversed in Spanish but his English was excellent as well. My ride with him was the highlight of a week visit to Colombia.

Our tour started off pretty well with some interesting sights but the bikes were not in good shape. Mine would shake very hard when braking. After a few stops, the tour started to go through much busier areas that it was impossible to actually ride through and we lost our guide numerous times. This was a problem because a few of the bikes kept breaking down. Then, the guide told me to put my camera away and took us through the red light district without warning. One of the bikes broke down right in the middle of it and we were stuck in a really bad area. Locals were walking by telling us how dangerous it was and screaming at our guide for being a bad Colombian for taking tourists to this area. We also got harassed by people who appeared to be under the influence of drugs and witnessed terrible activities taking place. It was very disturbing. We told our guide that we wanted to end the tour. When we got back, he even tried to tell us how lucky we were to have seen things that a lot of tourists don't get to see. It was insulting. We were lucky to all get through it safely. I'm angry we paid for this considering how dangerous this situation was.

We had two groups of people on this tour that split up. The other group reported having a pleasant ride (though with some of the same breaking down issues) and seeing a lot of awesome places. So if you do decide to do this tour, be very clear with your guide what you do or don't want to see.

Other recent reviews do a good job of describing what you see on this tour. Parks, a few historical sights, cemeteries and a few places to snack. What I liked about the tour was that we saw a lot of small yet interesting sights that we wouldn't have bothered to see on our own or that are only worth viewing for a minute or two (meaning not worth going out of your way on foot or in a car to see). Mike told some good stories and gave some good info but honestly, I've heard better. Maybe there just isn't that much more to talk about but I thought it was lacking.

I had no problem with the pace, the weaving and dodging of traffic and the general feeling of 'I hope I don't lose him' but I travel a lot, have been in numerous bike races, and have dodged worse city traffic. However a lot of others in our group didn't feel the same. If you're not a comfortable bike rider (ie you haven't been on a bike outside a spinning class in a few years) this might not be the tour for you- do a walking tour instead.

Also to note: bring cash to pay for the tour & snacks along the way. Our tour ran an hour long which was only bad because we had someone waiting to pick us up.

I won't recommend this tour to others because of 2 stops. The first was the tour stop of 'the abortion district.' Now I wasn't personally offended by this stop but I imagine others with more conservative leanings would find the descriptions of Bolivia being 'liberal and progressive' for having legalized abortion very offensive, along with descriptions of abortions gone wrong. Is it worth mentioning on a tour of a city that abortion is legal? Sure, as it is an anomaly is Catholic S America. But to stand around ogling abortion clinics seems tasteless. I am grateful that none of these clinics seemed to be open when we were there and no women had to suffer the humiliation of being gawked at by tourists.

An hour or so later though we did have the 'pleasure' of gawking at underprivileged women when we strolled through the red light district. Mike even pointed out 'the prostitutes don't like having their photos taken' --- so we should assume they don't mind being started at?! That prostitution is legal is irrelevant. Whether these women are here by choice or not is irrelevant. Someone commented 'it's the oldest occupation in the world.' Irrelevant. Prostitution is a career of poverty and I think it is sick to consider them a tourist attraction. Whether these women are looked at with pity, contempt or lust, no one was looking at them with respect.

If you want to raise awareness of the problems associated with prostitution and trafficking, then mention it as we're passing by a parallel street and tell people where they can learn more about sex slavery or donate to causes that help women (and men) stay safe, find alternate sources of income generation, or escape slavery. Don't roll through there like we're looking at animals at a zoo.

I went on this bike tour during a short trip to Bogota. After having done bike tours in other cities, I was excited to find out there was one in Bogota. It really is a great and unusual way to see a new city. My partner and I were the only two on the tour the day we went, and Mike, the guide, said it happened to be the low season. It was also mid week. We started at the bike shop in La Candelaria, where some assistants at the shop provided us with a bike, helmet, and leg strap, and made sure everything was ok. Mike came right when the tour was to start, and we quickly left the shop and headed into traffic. We went to a really good fruit market where we tried a bunch of local Colombian fruit. After that we checked out a ton of different sites, went to a local coffee factory, the bullfighting ring, played tejo to get out of the rain, stopped at the central cemetery to walk around, and made our way back to the shop via Los Andes University, and back through Plaza del Chorro. Mike is an awesome tour guide. He has spent a number of years living in Bogota and is full of information. He knew the answers to all of our questions, and really did a great job at navigating us around the city. He has formed relationships throughout his time there with all the vendors we stopped at, so I really felt like we got the real experience out of each place. This is a must for any visit to Bogota, short or long, first time or tenth time.

As an expat living in Bogota, I felt that this tour misrepresented Bogota to foreign tourists, making a point to show off the poorer neighborhoods or seedy areas while ignoring Bogota's great cultural and historical offerings. I know the tour is marketed as showing visitors all sides of Bogota, but really it felt like the equivalent of touring New York City and skipping Central Park and Times Square to go to the poorest neighborhoods in the Bronx instead. Additionally, the tour did not give the sense of actually getting to know all sides of Bogota (which could be valuable) but instead showing off areas like illegal abortion clinics and the red light district to tourists as if to say, look what a terrible city Bogota can be. The tour missed major historical sites like the Plaza Bolivar, although stops at the coffee factory and fruit market were interesting and provided a chance to try some Colombian specialties. The guide was knowledgeable about Colombian history and made some specific stops to highlight major historical figures which was valuable. However, overall the tone of the tour was in bad taste and seemed to cater to those who wanted to see the worst of Bogota and Latin American history.

Out guide was Michael and over 16km and 4 hours we saw numerous neighborhoods, learned great history and had a lot of fantastic graffiti explained to us. We have 3 kids--10, 14, 17 and this was perfect for them too. I cannot recommend this enough.

We are a family of 4 with two teenagers, and we had a great introduction to Bogota with our guide, Daniel. This tour was our first outing after arriving at midnight the night before. Daniel is incredibly knowledgeable. We learned about and sampled an array of Colombian fruits, we learned about coffee roasting, Colombian politics and history. Most important to my daughters, Daniel is an expert on Bogota street art and an artist himself. We also had the good fortune of going on Sunday when the main roads are closed to cars and turned over to bicycles, giving us a great perspective on the Bogota bike scene.

This is a great tour of the historical área and was great value at 35,000 pesos or about $12 USD.

I went on a Tuesday in February 2016. Mike was our guide. He is a former journalist from California, so fluent English and I asume Spanish good. Our tour was about 15 people, all English speaking, mostly from Europe......they get so much vacation time!

They have a 10:30 and 1:30 tour. My 10:30 tour last 5 hours, slow pace, but not too slow. We visited coffee Factory (small), local market to taste 7-8 fruits, streat perfomers, Street art and pointed out numerous local places and told history.

I visited Monserrete right afterwards...15-20 minute walk to cable car which was 18,000 pesos or $6 USD roundtrip. The views were amazing and it was recommended to me and I agree that the seeing it at night was great with the sunset. I heard morning or evening best, so can work in morning Monserrete, then Bike tour or after.

Definitely worth a high rating for quality and price. Decent shape needed to bike and a bit slow for those who are very impatient. Meeting other travelers a plus.
