If you're a fan of wrestling or bad shows, who knows you might like this. But we thought it was super bad: bad acting, bad show, the sound system was terrible such that you could not understand anything and it was a pain to your ears. Silly.

You must go there .
One of the funniest evening i had in the trip.
It's once a week on sunday so don't miss it.
The bus also stops on the way for taking photos from a viewpoint of La paz .

Cholitas Wrestling is completely bonkers but an absolute must-do in La Paz. Take an organised tour bus - you get a drink, popcorn and souvenirs thrown in, plus the mini-bus transfer. It's safe - but be very aware of pickpockets. Never seen them move so fast.

This was absolutely the worst decision I made in La Paz. It was NOT entertaining, it was downright disturbing. I fully understand that it is "fake" and "acting" but it was beyond horrible watching a man beat up a woman no matter how fake it may be. She was still in pain, she still had drinks spat in her face and was thrown into walls and jeered at. I was totally disgusted and would not recommend this to anyone. I was expecting professional wrestling between strong, athletic women. What it was should never be considered fun entertainment. DO NOT SUPPORT THIS.

Do not book this activity via any agency! They will charge you 90bs and take you to a crappy touristy venue with a bad show.
If you really want to see cholitas, there are places where mainly locals go, and the shows are only on Sunday. The ticket you can buy directly at the venue and it costs only 20 soles!
Just go to the area of flee market, where blue line teleferico ends and red starts. There will be a building called "multifuncional" something, like a municipal hall for events. And they do it there. Should be more interesting and cheaper! I couldn't make it on Sunday, but worth a try! Otherwise just skip it, it is not worth the money!

We attended the cholita wrestling on Thursday night and wanted to try and do it on our own time frame without a tour. It's totally possible! It begins at 5:30pm on Thursday nights and is located in El Alto - you can go enjoy the El Alto market beforehand and then walk to the venue. The teleferico has a stop very close by (it's the last stop on the El Alto line). The address for the Thursday event is Zona 16 de Julio, Avenida 16 de julio, entre calles catacorca y alvarez plata, No. 400B. You can totally buy tickets at the door (cheaper than a tour!) and the ticket includes popcorn and a drink.

The wrestling is a silly, fun way to spend an evening. It's totally outrageous but very entertaining!

We wanted to do this under our own steam so took a collectivo to Ceja (2B) then walked about 7 blocks to the stadium. Foreigners aren't allowed to buy the cheaper 15B to sit on the benches with locals anymore but have to buy the 50B executive tickets and sit at the front with all the tour groups. There were about twice as many tourists as local people there and it felt a bit segregated and put on for tourists for me. I'm not that into fighting so we left after 3 fights and took a collectivo van back to San Francisco - it was very simple getting there and back by ourselves but we did leave in daylight hours and have been warned about pickpockets in the area so wouldn't recommend going with too many valuables. Also its freezing in the hall so wear a jacket and hats - most local people brought blankets to cover the cold seats and their laps.

I read many mix reviews before going, but I decided to try it anyway. All in all, I think it's fun, but I understand some people might not enjoy. So before you decide to go, read this:

- if you are expecting a WWE quality show for around 15 dollars, then this show might not be for you.
- the plot of the fights can get a bit repetitive and the men's fights are kind of boring.
- They really need to get a proper sound system. Specially a microphone.
- I have read many comments saying that it's disturbing or that visitors have not enjoyed it because of men hitting women. Nevertheless, it's important to remember this is a show. So if you enjoy any movie which includes women fighting, then I don't understand what the big deal is.
- More important yet, the people that say they don't like women fighting against men clearly didn't do their research. This is a show performed and developed by women, in which they stand in the same scenario with men and in which they are the heroes. In a society that still suffers from a lot of misogyny, this is very remarkable.
- Also, this is a source of income for many people that don't have any other way to earn a living.
- Even though a good chunk of the show can get boring, most of it is funny and you can see they are making an effort to give you a good show.

Conclusion: Cholitas Wrestling is a show that still needs a lot of improvement, but all in all it is fun and unique.

I went to Cholitas Wrestling to see cholitas, but most of the show is of men romping around like circus clowns. They play-act wrestling moves in such slow motion that much of the show seems forced. And yet, I was entertained and would go again. It's one of those shows that is so appallingly fake and culturally foreign that I can't not watch it. And I can't not love how the locals love to watch it too! Cholitas do wrestle, sometime about mid-show. And they wrestle much better than the clown men.

This is a tourist trap. Everything is rehearsed and it is just ridiculous, and not fun. Payed 80 bolivianos to get there late with the bus, have some popcorn, sit in the "VIP area" and leave after 20 minutes because I didn't want to waist more time on this crap. Do not do it.
