Significantly cheaper than a number of other options but the experience was unforgettable. Gustavo our guide was brilliant, made everyone feel safe and secure while also providing a day full of laughs and fun. His years of experience were evident as he took us to all the best photo spots along the road and knew how to get the most from the day!

Great full day trip. The guides Chelo, Rubens & Alex were amazing. Felt safe during the whole trip. The guides gave a lot of safety tips and the bikes were in an impeccable state! Real good downhill MTB, during the lunchbreak the guides checked all the bikes individually again and did maintenance if necessary.

Highly recommend this company!

The guide, Marcelo, was AWESOME! He gave careful instructions, the bikes were great, he left us go free at our own pace but always keeping an eye and making sure we had a great and safe time!
The food at the end was very good! Better than I thought!
I thought the clothes were a bit wore down, in particular the protectors for the knee and elbows - so I only used them for a little bit and then took them off. But the most important thing - the bikes, were PERFECT! Great suspension, AWESOME views!

The tour was excellent. Remy and Alvaro did a fabulous job of getting us all down the ride safely, yet having an absolute blast! Bring insect repellent...I didn't and got a bunch of no see um bites at the swimming pool. Highly recommend this tour company. I do alot of biking and they were top notch.

I did lots of research into which company to choose as I was concerned in particular about safety. In the end we chose Barracuda which was sold as a good budget option.
Initially I was impressed; our group was made up of only six people, the guide was lovely and informative, the gear was good and the ride down was great fun. Lunch afterwards was simple but acceptable.
What followed ruined the trip. We left lunch in the small white minivan that they had provided as transport from La Paz and that had acted as our following vehicle for the ride. The guide then told us, as we were driving, that the access to the new, safe road was blocked and that we would have to take the death road (uphill) to return to La Paz. The guide then promptly fell asleep. The driver drove at breakneck speed up the famously dangerous one way gravel road (85000 people have died on this road). He flew around blind corners with a sheer cliff drop on one side and drove frankly recklessly. It was pouring with rain and foggy and he frequently took a hand off the wheel to rub the fogged windscreen with a rag.The van even cut out at one point and had to be restarted. I was absolutely terrified for the duration of the trip.
After what seemed like hours we reached the sealed road. Our guide then woke and when we said we were unhappy and scared he told us that only one of the access roads to the new road had been blocked but that the other access would take 45 minutes longer so the driver had chosen to take death road instead! In other words, the driver put us all in danger so that he would get home on time!
He then proceeded to drive far too fast on the sealed road, drifting into the oncoming lane on blind corners. When we asked if he could go a little slower the guide said that he is ok because he knows the road well!
I summary, I do not think that our experience was safe and would not recommend this company at all. Rather pay the extra for a safe experience.

I am so glad that you enjoyed the ride. That day every group took the old road back up due to the conditions of the new road. The driver should have communicated that. While the drivers do have a lot of experience they do know that when they work with us they have to drive more calmly. Due to your complaint we no longer work with the driver you had. Sorry that the drive back up soured what otherwise would have been an incredible day.

This is something I really wanted to do for a long time but when it got closer I got a bit scared since I heard a lot of bad stories about the tours. There are so many companies in la Paz offering tours to the death roads so it’s hard to know which one to go with. After speaking to people living in la Paz we choose Barracuda.

I’m very happy that we did! We were a group of 8 people and our guide Christian and Louis took really good care of us. We got full gear, (gloves, jackets, helmets etc) good bikes and they helped us taking pictures during the whole day. The explained the rules and how to do it safe and you could go in the pace you felt comfortable with.

The views are amazing and it’s definitely worth doing it! At the end of the day you finish with a buffe and you can relax at the swimming pool.

Went for a Death Road tour with Barracuda Bikes. Overall, the biking was awesome but the whole experience was soured by the transport.

The good - good guides, good equipment, made us feel safe, able to go at own pace, nice pictures.

The bad - far and away the worst part was our transport. We reached the bottom where we had a very average meal and then were told that the new road was closed and we had to go back up Death Road. We were put back into the rickety van with our insane driver. Raining and misty with a driver that cornered too hard and too fast was horrifying. It turns out we could have gone a different route to get back up to the new road but this would have taken an extra 45mins so the driver made the decision without asking us. To make matters even worse when we made it onto the main road again the driver went even faster and shifted from one side of the road to the other as though he was drunk. I asked the guide to slow him down but he didn't. This is so appalling for a company that is supposedly "safe"!!

Until Barracuda gets professional drivers with proper vans/4x4s or at least gets rid of the terrible driver we had I would recommend people use Gravity despite the higher price!!

We reserved a trip with Barracuda on a Sunday for Tuesday and paid on the spot. Tuesday was a national holiday, but this company was still doing the tour. On Monday around midday we received our confirmation of the trip and still around 9 pm it was happening. At 11.30 pm we received a notice via our hostel that the trip has been cancelled "due to poor conditions on the road". I do not believe it for a moment - because of the holiday the employees are just drunk and don't want to head out in the morning. In short: our trip was cancelled 7 hours before it was due to start, because the guides were having a heavy night out.

Barracuda offered us the ride on Wednesday for a 5% discount (a whole 2 €...!). We declined and proposed a bigger discount, which they declined. We booked a ride with a different company for Wednesday. Now we are still trying to get our money back from Barracuda...

While I am very sorry about a late cancelation I can assure you that we did not go out that day because of issues on the road, not because the guides and drivers were drinking. We refunded you as soon as possible, sorry for the delay.

This was just awesome. We booked with Barracuda because they were the company that "for sure" will do the trip on the Tuesday that happens to be a public holiday. There were other companies that seemed better (Madness comes to mind), but since barracuda were only going the day after, why not book with them..

Then Monday night at 23:30(!) we get a call from barracuda saying that they'll cancel the trip. This is no doubt because everyone is drunk out of their skulls; who would blame them since there's a public holiday the day after!

To make up for making us stay an extra day in La Paz - paying for accommodation etc when everything's closed and you can't do much - they offered us a 5% discount to go the day after.

Anyway, overall, perhaps the worst customer service I've encountered in the 47 countries I've visited.
