I made a fortune shopping here in the 1970's. Other people did as well. The famous New York shop, Putamayo started their operations here with knitted sweaters. I turned $2000 into $200,000, and that was 45 years ago, so it was really a lot of money then. More like $5 million today. I used to go to La Paz for three or four months, buy stuff, ship it to NY, and go back to the States to sell it. After 3 years of that, I branched out to Asia as well.

I've read several reviews saying that Calle Sagarnaga is just a bunch of tourist shops/restaurants and isn't worth the hype. I can't disagree more. While there certainly are touristy shops and restaurants, there is so much more if you take the time and have the courage to explore a bit (and get more than a block away from Plaza de San Francisco). Scores of unremarkable doors and pathways lead to magnificent colonial courtyards full of non-touristy shops, restaurants, quirky museums, etc.

Calle Sagarnaga is one of the most popular streets in La Paz teeming with all the touristy stuff. Our hotel sits along this street which is also part of the Mercado de Las Brujas, Witches' Market.

It's very colourful both visually and mentally.

Lots of retail outlets, souvenir shops, hotels, restaurants, pubs etc.

My wife and I enjoyed our daily walks in and around this area.

Beautiful and typical place to see and buy typical handcraft. Great people, good prices, they offer discounts. Very friendly! There are places to drink Coca Tea, ATM, close to teleferico.

A very colorful, vibrant street where you can find all kinds of crafts and Bolivian products such as coca leaves and candies, coca quina (Bolivian coca cola) and much more. It's a very nice place, clean and felt very safe. I recommend!

- Lets just say I have never been to a market just like this one! Despite the high altitude in this country, i truly enjoyed walking around market. Everything you can find here are pretty much sovenirs but there are some shops that sell really weird and wonderful things that will get you thinking what they are and what can you do with it after you bought it. Nothing is overly expensive, you can definitely bargain with the sellers. We bought a Che Guevara's tshirt for about USD$5. Its not expensive at all!

- One thing i have to say is looking after your belonging. We dont feel unsafe there but there are a lot of people around the catherdral so its best to look after your belongings.

- Prepare to see really weird things there and its a truly eye-opener experience. If you dont visit the market then you probably wont understand Bolivia.

- Most of the stuff are cheap enough so bargaining with the stall seller is pretty useless and waste of time. While there are still some stubborn stall sellers who refused to bring their prices down too so shop at your own risk!

- Theres not a lot of food stalls or restaurants on this streets. Mainly cafes cater for gringos backpackers.

- One very good tip is you can get Yerba Mate, mate gourd, mate bombillas in a few shops here. Prices starts about 50 Bs for the gourd and same goes to the bombillas.

- This is a also a place worth taking very pretty pictures because all the traditional Boliviano ladies hang around here selling hot Tamales and steamed potatos.

- If you are here early in the morning on sunday, be sure to walk around the markets and locate the guy who sells cerviche. It is definitely worth that 15 bs per bowl! (see attached picture)

After camping for 4 days I needed a shave and where better than in one of the numerous barber shops towards the bottom of the street. Apart from this there are numerous agencies where you can book yourself a tour or further up the hill shops become more geared toward the tourist as the Witches market is off to the side where you can buy just about anything.

Nothing out of the ordinary here, travel agencies, gift shops, and hotels. The great part is the prices! Similar handycrafts to Peru but at a much lower cost. A good place to book your trips and grab some souvenirs

I cannot remember the name of the place (it might not have had one) but as you go uphill up Sagarnaga there is a leather shop on the right hand side near the top. Here I got a leather jacket made to my specifications in a perfect fit within three days for 500Bs. It is awesome. Find him!
