The Huayna Potosí is the only snow mountain at 6,000 meters above sea level, which can be accessed quickly in less time.

Since it is quite accessible, it only requires a minimum of experience in high mountaineering. Nevertheless. Huayna Potosí has a thousand adventures and an accident story whose attack on the summit from the north and west faces the protagonist, and many people die trying. The North and West Faces are actually rated as Extreme Difficulty.

I have contacted All Transport for a trip to Titicaca Lake. The plan was to go to Isla de Sol from La Paz, spend the night and return the next day. They have collected me at the hotel and dropped me off to the bus station where the friendly and experienced guide, Nirco, was waiting for me. We took the public bus to Copacabana. Nirco then has explained me about some difficulties to get to Isla del Sol due to a few disruptions undergoing between the island residents and boat owners (or something like it). So he suggested me to visit the Isla de la Luna instead. I have agreed and it was the best decision I could have make in that trip. Isla de la Luna preserves the Aymara culture. In there we stayed with a Aymara family that has the most cozy lodge built by the bare hands of the beyond skilled, senor Francisco. Senora Maria, Francisco’s wife, has received us with an Aymara blessing with flower petals. Their place has a breath taking view of the Titicaca waters and Templo de la Luna. They have offered us a delicious typical meal served in the patio where the view is unbearable! Nirco and I went on a walk through the island. We have seen the plantations and Nirco taught me a lot about the Aymara life style. We then visited the temple. The Temple is amazing. It is well preserved and still used by the local women for their rituals. We went back to Maria and Francisco’s place. Maria has kindly warmed up some water for my shower and prepared us a delicious quinoa soup. The best soap I have had in my entire life! Senor Francisco has played some pretty Andes’s songs for us in a local flute. And I went to bed. They have built their lodge in a way the heat does do dissipate. So we do not feel cold. The night was gorgeous, the sky was shining as bright as ever and there was no noise at all. In the morning, I have enjoyed the sun rise and senora Maria has served a great breakfast with a local bread that I could not stop eating! They have brought the llamas so we could take pet and take pictures with them. Senora Maria also dressed me up with their typical clothes for pictures! All so genuine and marvelous I can not even start explain how I loved the whole experience. As I really wanted to go to Isla del Sol I have booked with the boat that took us to Isla de la Luna to collect us in Isla de la luna and drop us off in Isla del sol, wait for us and then take us back to the main land. (This had an extra coast.) In isla de Sol, north portion, we have visited the inca path, Rocca Sagrada, Mesa de sacrificios and the Chincana Templo all of profound beauty. We have returned to La Paz and the agency has collected me and dropped me off at the hotel. I would recommend the Isla de la Luna experience to anyone who is seeking for peace and a unique space from modern life. Senora Maria can be contacted by phone on +591 71992633, she speaks Aymara and Spanish. If coming from Peru or fining yourself in Copacabana you can contact her straight and book your experience.

Booked the Death Road and 2D1N Uyuni tours (plus transport La Paz-Uyuni and return) in Dec 2020. Pros: - The tour operator, Richard, is pretty fluent in English and will explain things to quite clearly. - Their prices are not the highest amongst all tour operators on Sargarnaga street - Their work hours are fairly long - You will get 90% of what's promised Cons: - Richard is the kind of guy that will say yes to anything just to get you to spend money, even if it's not true. (Watch out!) - Difficult to get a refund. - Salar de Uyuni tour has unsafe guides - You will only get 90% of what's promised I booked the Death Road tour followed by a bus to Uyuni the same night. He had promised me that the guide would pick me up from the hostel at 7am and return me to the hostel by 7pm so that I could make the Uyuni bus at 8pm. The Uyuni bus pickup would also be at the hostel. I verbally confirmed this with him many times at the agency and he said it was guaranteed to work. At the Death Road tour, the guide told me that was not possible as there were several families with kids that wanted to spend time at the hotel/pool after the trip. I had to spend an extra 50 Bs taking local buses/taxis back to La Paz. I am okay with this, but it was NOT what Richard promised. When I returned to the hostel, Richard messages me on Whatsapp telling me to go to the bus station to catch my 8pm bus. Again, this was not what he had promised. At least he agreed to walk me there and take the tickets, but when I tried asking him about the pickup, he at first pretended to not have promised it, then later apologized for his 'mistake'. The 2D1N Salar de Uyuni tour they book is through Cordillera Traveller and partnering with World White Travel to pool tour groups. The guide was bad at time management (ended tour 2hrs late) and didn't know how to deal with altitude sickness (I fell quite sick near the green lagoon) and told me to wait it out. Please do not go with either Uyuni operators or at least check your guide has basic safety proficiencies. Furthermore, the return ticket for the bus from Uyuni to La Paz had the wrong date, so I had to buy my own ticket. When I went to the office at 10am for a refund, I was told by the lady there that I needed for Richard to physically be there to process this refund, though I had a bus to Rurrenabaque that afternoon. Fortunately, when I returned at 12pm the lady relented and processed my bus ticket refund.

It has been quite a while (2 years) since our trip but I just remembered that I never wrote a review and since climbing Huayna Potosi was one of the greatest experiences in my life, I want to make up for it. First of all we were a little sceptical, since we were no asked abour our conditions and skills because you definitely have to be fit and acclimatized. But we did not worry to much since me and my boyfriend were both fit (22 at that time) and had a bit of experience with mountaineering in the alps. We booked a 3 day trip including ice climbing, climbing gear, refugies, meals and the mountain guide and paied 1000 Bs per person which is very cheap. In spite of the low price, the equipment seemed fine and our mountain guide was defenetly experienced and a very nice guy. He was very considerate brought us to the peak savely and in a good paste. Another guide (also from all transport) gave me his down jacket because I was so cold. So, very caring and nice people at the agency :). Ice climbing at the first day was fun and a good option to acclimatize. The other two day to the base camp and the peak were defently harder but the view made up for it. (Breathtaking, close to tears) The good propably also helped a lot to reach the top :D. Since I am celiac and we are both vegetarian, they had quite a challenge with us but they coped with that very well. We had soups, rice with vegetables and avocado or cheese and they even bought gluten free cookies! Over all I can only reccomend booking with all transport and wish I could remember the name of our guide so I could thank him here.

My daughter Clémentine and I did a 3-day trek followed by the climb of the Huayna Potosi last month with All Transport and I would like to feed back how great it was. Chali is a very nice and careful guide and a very good cook; in the 3-day trek he made us discover wonderful scenaries and gave us many interesting information on our environment. Climbing the Huayna Potosi with Gonzalo was a great experience. We felt safe and as Gonzalo took great care of adapting to our rythm, the climb was of course tiring but managable, and the happiness at the summit was immense. We would like to thank you for this great trek and we would recommend your company, and especially Chali and Gonzalo without hesitating. Sophie and Clémentine
