We stopped here on a tour of Punta Del Este as a photograph stop. It is indeed a fine lighthouse from outside. It is well worth the stop to enjoy and it is a shame that access only occurs on Heritage day.

Went here while una a city tour. The lighthouse is open only on the Dia del Patrimonio which date changes every year in October. It’s absolutely free and a must for nice pics.

The Punta del Este Lighthouse is one of the most importants landmarks of this city. Great place for taking pictures of this lovely construction

We've been in Punta del Este three weeks now and have tried on a few occasions to get inside. There are two pictures in TA where someone was at the top, it was in January so maybe it is only accessible in the Summer. The square that sits near the lighthouse has a weather measurement station as well as the lovely Candelaria Catholic Church. Best of all though is the palm trees which have numerous Quaker Parrots living in them. The eat on the greens of the wquare and drink from puddles after a rain. Excellent.

If it weren't for the small church across the street this stop could be missed during your tour of Punta Del Este.

Built in 1860 but a volcanic cement mix brought in from Rome. Due to the strong mix, the lighthouse stands today as it did more than 150 years ago. It's a beautiful building that definitely requires a visit if you are in Punta del Este. From the main centre, it takes 15 to 20 min to walk there. You can't up into the lighthouse unfortunately.

Start with a very slow walk around the port side of Punta del Este, head towards the sea front and around the peninusla.
We actually started at SOHO restaurant by the port, so we were very well fed before starting
Stop at the old Citroen? car parked on the front, and have a chat to Jose and buy some of his pastries- all hand made by his wife. Eat them quick though as they blow away with the wind.
Head up to the lighthouse for a viewpoint and a few photos- not open to the public.
Drop back down to the sea front, following it around, taking in the seaviews until finally heading back into the town for a hot chocolate and a walk around all of the shops
It took us 2 hours to do this walk, but we were walking like snails, going down onto the beach at every opportunity and stopping every 5 minutes. It would take about 25 mins i think.
Then we spent 2 hours walking in and out of every shop in town. We had a great afternoon doing nothing.
Take some bottled water as nowhere on the peninsula to buy anything apart from pastries
:)

The lighthouse is very pretty and it the very center of the peninsula. There are few restaurants near by. Unfortunately you can't access the tower itself for views.

This is the original light-house of Punta del Este. It is located at the corner of a nice little square, ideal for a quick walk around. It is perfect for a break from the beach and see something original & old in Punta del Este.

Located across from the Iglesia Candeleria, neither the Faro nor the building near it is open to the public or tourist like us. We just took pictures and moved on to our next places to visit in Punta del Este.
As we drove away, I could not help but wonder about what we could see if we're allowed to enter or climb the Faro. Since it is high and located in an elevated place, the views must be beautiful.
