the main commercial/tourist street in PdE
Oct 2020
This street has mostly tourist-related shops and restaurants, but there are also other businesses which seem to flourish year-round.

Soulless and pretentious
Mar 2020 • Friends
As we were walking around this area we were all trying to decide where it reminded us of. While not in the same ballpark, parts of Avenida Gorlero are similar to small pockets of South Beach, Miami. Very pretentious, expensive shops for no reason other than where they are and lacking in soul. Lots and lots of places to buy ice cream but we had to return to the promenade for a good beer.

Interesting but very pretentious

This city/town has very little sole, actual life in it. This Avenue is very picturesque, but with no depth or brevity. The whole city does not appear to have life; life for the living. It’s a very false place, built on restaurants, bars, and tacky gift shops. If that’s the kind of thing you like then you will be right at home; if you like nice art galleries, history and culture don’t come here, simple as that.

Good and bad sides of a bad touristic season
Jan 2019 • Couples
This summer season so many less people came from Argentina that Punta del Este looks kind of empty and, because of unfavourable exchange rate plus local high prices, there are many, really many, empty places for rent. Nevertheless, a walk for old times sake is enjoyable.

Shopping street

Avendia Gorlero is the main street on the peninsula. Very colourful, vibrant but sadly is not pedestrian only. Lots of shopping and restaurants and a pleasant way to walk from the cruise ship tender port to Playa Brava.

Looking to buy a bathing suit? keep out!
Mar 2018 • Friends
A week ago a was walking along Gorlero Ave and walked in a store called Maria De Sol owned by a Brazilian lady that should not be left to attend the public. This lady is rude and mouthy on a good day, and border line to dangerous most of the time.
I was told by a friend about this place and warned about this lady. Knowing that I generally mind my business I browsed the racks and chose to try 5 pieces. I could not decide on the one, needed to sleep it over but the owner did not agree with such a typical decision and said that should I change my mind and come back she was not going to sell me the bathing suit. I was back the day after and sure enough this lady not only change the price of the suit (because she can, as she put it), demanded american dollars in cash and when I showed surprised she simple kicked me out the store screaming insults. I was stopped on the street by another customer that mentioned a similar experience only a few days before.

Shopping Strip
Dec 2017 • Couples
This street includes a mish-mash of shopping, from a Ford dealership to McDonalds. We hit it to find a few essentials we had run out of on our trip. There are some nicer shops if you look hard enough.

Punta del Este almost like paradise
Jan 2017
If you travel to South America, Uruguay is a must! A small country with less than 4.000.000 population and most of them living in the capital Montevideo is a gem. You can start your trip in Colonia (Historical city protected by Unesco) and facing the River de la Plata (in one hour you can cross the river and visit Buenos Aires). Continue to Montevideo, a very nice city over the River de la Plata with a beautiful rambla and a lot of very good restaurant in Pocitos and Carrasco neighborhoods. Continue driving to the east and in less than 2 hours you will arrive to Punta del Este! Beautiful beaches and good infrastructure for tourists. Best time to visit is December and March but if you like the crazy night life you should go on January till mid February. It's a little expensive but it's like living in paradise. (check the prices before and be careful not to leave anything inside the car or on the beach while in the water because there are a lot of pickpocket and sneak thieves) Continue travelling to the east and in two hours you will be in Rocha county with La Paloma, Punta del Diablo, and a lot of little and charming beach villages with very little infrastructure and low profile but the most amazing beaches (be sure were you can take a bath and ask the locals).
