Beautiful architecture, scenic spot on waterfront and delightful collection of art and artifacts. The building and canopy is amazing. Plenty of shady spots to sit and enjoy your time. Bring a book and enjoy. The museum collection occupies more than a dozen galleries. Each gallery hosts a few collections and all offer plenty of space for guests. Some halls feel sparse but artifacts are magic. Museum also has plenty of indoor lounge space to simply enjoy and relax. The collection isn’t overwhelming (like it’s sister museum in Paris). Several special exhibition space and again, well worth a visit. Time limit (3 hours) was lifted during our visit. That said, we finish the main exhibits within that time. Easy entry with online tickets to bypass counter. Security screen and COVID vaccine/test verification required. Our pre-flight USA COVID Negative PCR test results and CDC cards were accepted (we had paper copies). We taxied from Dubai (approx. 1 hr). Not many other attractions/restaurants nearby at the time of our visit so we ate at the on-site cafe. Great app for museum collection and good Wi-Fi.

The Louvre in Abu Dhabi is located on Saadiyat Island.

I took a taxi from my hotel on Yas Island and it took around 20 minutes and cost about 45 dirham one way.

I had hoped to visit the Louvre on a trip five years ago but construction issues did not allow it then, so I was delighted to have another chance to come here.

It is a superbly modern establishment with many sculptures, ceramics and artefacts across numerous ancient civilisations over many eras.

I was interested to see the art work on display as I was assuming that finance would not be an issue obtaining great work to exhibit.

There were some terrific works on show. I liked the Rembrandt and other older work, but my particular favourite was The Astronomer by Vermeer.

There aren’t many Vermeer paintings on display anywhere in the world so it was great to see one here.

Plenty of Impressionist work from the likes of Pissarro, Sisley, Monet, Gaugin, Manet and Van Gogh were displayed,

I also liked the American art by Pollack and Cy Twombly.

There was a separate exhibition of photographic prints taken on several islands in UAE by a local artist which was quite interesting.

I noticed in the gift shop after my visit there were postcards with Modigliani and Soutine paintings which I didn’t see. Maybe I missed a room or perhaps they weren’t currently on show.

I booked online and paid 63 dirham for my visit. You need to show a ‘green’ Al Hosn status to gain entry or a current PCR test result and vaccination status.

There is a taxi rank outside the gallery to enable an easy return to your hotel.

This has been amazingly curated so that you actually learn in a really accessible way as you walk through the museum. The eating and drinking options are also in beautiful locations to sit out and the shop is also fab. Absolutely worth a visit - give yourself three hours and try and overlap with sundown (5.30-6) as the views are stunning.

Be careful! You need PCR test that was taken not more than 2 weeks ago to enter this museum! there were a bunch of people with vaccination passports, but they weren’t allowed to enter (us included) because of no pcr test… Tickets are non-refundable and what’s more strange is that you have to buy them online in advance. We went there all the way from Dubai (more than an hour by car). I’m sure the museum is great, just make sure you have the negative covid test taken.
Осторожно! нужен ПЦР сделанный 2/меньше недель назад, чтобы попасть в музей. по паспорту вакцинации не пускают! деньги за билеты не возвращают.

Me and wife visited the gallery last month and we had an unpleasant experience with one of their male staff.

While viewing one of their artifacts, I was showing my wife some fine details on the relic as everyone knows that there are minute details in art pieces that will catch your eye. When I was pointing out the particular feature, one security guy, I believe his name is Roman, suddenly raised his voice and told us that there is "NO POINTING!!!" allowed. This surprised us since we didn't even touch the item. It was actually fine to call our attention but the way he did it was quite disrespectful. He acted bossy and didn’t treat us in a proper manner.

I sent an email to raise this concern to the management and nothing has been done.

We have been to many museums including the Louvre in Paris and we know that your standards are unparalleled but I guess this Abu Dhabi branch has lowered the bar.

Very disappointing indeed! I don’t recommend going through the hassle of traveling to this location. Save your money and time!

Hello, thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. We’re sorry to hear that you had a bad experience during your visit. We do have visitor regulations in place at the museum to ensure that our artworks are protected and for everyone to have a safe and pleasant experience, and our security team is instructed to take action in case they witness a breach of those regulations. We thank you for your understanding and hope to see you again in the future. Louvre Abu Dhabi

The Abu Dhabi Louvre is an art museum located on Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi. It runs under an agreement between the UAE and France, signed in 2007, that allows it to use the Louvre's name until 2037, and has been described by the Louvre as "France’s largest cultural project abroad". The museum's stated aim is to bridge the gap between Eastern and Western art. I am not sure if the exhibition we saw is the permanent one, but its theme was the development of civilization. It's a beautiful building worth a visit. If you buy tickets in advance, they will be for a particular time slot. We did buy in advance on the internet, but there was no problem coming at a different time, as the museum was not too busy. It’s become a must-see attraction in Abu Dhabi.

My family and I visited the Louvre in February. We have two typical boys aged 14 and 12

Getting there: We went by Taxi which are always easy to get, safe and good value for money. The Louvre is not as far from Abu Dhabi than Yas Island so the fare will be well under £20 sterling at the time of writing.

I could not seem to book tickets in advance with having children. The queue at the Louvre didn’t take too long to get tickets (5 minutes roughly) Children under 13 are free.

In hindsight I wished I opted for the media system to listen to about the various exhibits.

I found the place really really interesting but my kids became quickly bored and wanted to go back to the hotel to use the pool.

The children’s museum within the Louvre was great but geared for children under the age of 11 in my opinion.

Summary. Taking teenage kids like ours is a no go. I would love to go back sometime on my own (opting for the media guide) as I found the place amazing.

I went to visit the museum and surprised about strange roles asking about PCR test within 14 days to be allowed to enter the museum. I was fully vaccinated with my family. I arrived to the city before 7 days visiting all fantastic activity wearing the mask the whole time with no similar policy indicating i have to have PCR test before entering any activity.
I always like to follow the role but the way how the lady in front disk respond to my enquiry not appropriate. I decided to leave with bad impression about a place in my opinion should represent abu dhabi in better form. Writing this critique in favor of having a better service in this beautiful city.

As a couple who tend not to go to museums we were intrigued by the hype of the Louvre 2nd museum. It tells the story of human history is a clever way taking us through time through the exhibits.

Personally I would have preferred more paintings than artefacts, but suspect that is personal choice. The app is easy to use, the security unobtrusive as the layout very good. The location is a bit out of the way but all in all, I am glad I did not come all the way to Abu Dhabi and not see it.

This a a fabulous building and that alone is worth the visit. We had not pre-booked and the only surprise was that we had to show a passport when purchasing the tickets (fortunately we had thrown them in our bag in the morning). We were aware of the need to the PCR tests, but not the requirement for a passport. The exhibits are displaying as a progression of time which makes it very interesting. Highly recommend.
