The Old City of Damascus has always been and will always be the greatest walking tour of any old Middle Eastern cities.
It is possible to simply search through the many smaller Souqs just off of the two main and largest Souqs called: Al- Hamidiyah and Midhat Basha Souq.
Just a few days ago I spent four hours simply discovering the many different lamps and lanterns while I was simply walking along these busy Souqs. Then I switched to take in and concentrate on the many small balconies which protrude into the main Souq.
There is so, so much to discover and see within the very old walls of the Old City of Damascus that the average person must spend days not hours exploring and studying this amazing city…Trust me you will not be disappointed…

Explosive trip. Lovely,
Feb 2020
Damascus was very much alive. My 3 children loved it. The locals were lovely, but had a bit of a temper. Nothing bad happened, but let's just say that my husband came back with one less limb than he started off with. The views were dynamic, and explosive. It filled me with joy to look out across the city. Apparently they set of fireworks everyday in Syria. Who knew? And they have this funny dodge ball game, with what looks like toy grenades. 10/10, would go again.

From the historical point of Straight Rd and St Pauls journey to Saladin and his amazing life this is full of history. And the markets are amazing. The homemade icecream market is world renowned.

Beautiful even taking into consideration what the city and its population has been going through

The old town still beautiful and attractive with all its history and exoticism. Taking into consideration what the city and its population has been going through since 2011, the city is still safe, very safe.
I would walk from my hotel to the souq and back late at night, shop owners leave their merchandise exposed, open, and there is zero crime, everybody's friendly and helpful, and yes, there are some instances when you have no idea what you're walking into, but, that's just the way things are right now in the whole of Syria.

Damascus, oh, Damascus!
Nov 2019
There are few places with such history, as Damascus, on Earth and the heart of Damascus is the old town. The tiny streets, the market, the churches, the Straight Street, the original melting pot - still one, after thousands of years- Damascus' old city is a marvel. Not with the majestic feel of grand architecture and impressive homes and gardens, but with the humble, quiet way of ancient history that arrived to our age and time uninterrupted.

Unbelievable History Here

From the gates into Straigh t Street t hen to Ananais' house this old walled city holds plenty of history including building architecture. The Old buildings are amazing especially the architect which includes balconies over the street reaching towards the opposite side of the road.
