Saladin was the ruler of Egypt and Syria who defeated the crusaders in the Hittin Battle in 1187, captured Jerusalem and defended it against the 3rd crusade. As such, he's a hero of Muslims and Arabs, especially since the modern enemy of Israel is located in a similar place, between Egypt and Syria, in Palestine.

The statue is located in front of the citadel of Damascus, and close to the entrance of the Al-Hamidiyya bazaar.

The statue shows Saladin riding a horse. There are some defeated crusaders behind him. The statue is illuminated by night I believe.

It is reasonably nice.

This monument is at the beginning of the entrance to both the Hamadeyia souk and Citadel and presents a great opportunity for a nice picture

Impressive statue

It is still intact and very large and impressive. It is right in the middle of the pavement so you can't miss it.

Near the entrance to the souk, this is a cool statue remembering the bane of the European crusaders in the 12th century

We came upon the statue justbefore entering the Souk. It is huge with Saladin triumphant onhis horse and surrounded by Crusaders (Unfortunately ) looking in a bad way.
Brilliant statue

Exactly like Baraa A says, ordinary statue, nothing fancy about it... And of course it looks good at night.

just OK, it's just a statue that is not old, the statue is next to Damascus Citadel which is worthy of visiting.

I like this statue very, very much and especially at night with the new lighting on it!! It is directly in front of the old Citadel and you better have a lot of space left on your camera...
