About
mim is a private mineral and fossil museum in Beirut, Lebanon. The minerals section exhibits 2,200 minerals, representing 510 different species from 75 countries. Created by nature, those works of art with breathtaking aesthetics formed in earth’s crust millions of years ago. Salim Edde has built up this collection starting 1997. It is considered one of the world's paramount collections for the variety and quality of its minerals. A didactic circuit, with screens displaying films and scientific applications of mineralogy, will reveal a world of marvels, priceless both from an aesthetic and scientific point of view. The fossils section hosts 200 fossils from Lebanon, including Mimodactylus libanensis, a unique complete pterodactyl, promoted by means of state-of-the-art techniques: a hologram, an auto-stereoscopic movie and a game that delights children and adults. The history of fossil formation is shown through an animation that submerses you in a journey 100 million years ago.

- BecharaYenAbu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates209 contributionsProbably the best (private) minerals museum in the WorldOne of the most exciting minerals museum in the world, in one of the smallest countries in the world. We visited twice within 6 months, and were lucky to hear the (super-passionate) founder, Salim Eddé, explain his adventures in acquiring many of the world-class pieces, as well as explain about their characteristics. Ticket entry left, symbolically, at Lebanese Pounds 10,000 or less than 15 cents.Visited March 2024Traveled with familyWritten March 23, 2024
- PeterGeneva, Switzerland40 contributionsA gem in Beirut (pun intended)This museum has no right to be this good. The space is relatively small, but filled to the brim, but world-class in its execution, which was a huge surprise. The ticket practically cost nothing at the time (but Lebanon is in a weird place in 2024...). Don't expect a science deep-dive, as it is more of an exhibition than an educational museum. But I was here with me 20-month-old toddler, and he was awestruck, and frankly, so was I. Cute gift shop too. The whole thing left me more curious about minerals, which is an achievement in itself. PS: You can't bring water into the museum.Visited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten July 25, 2024

I had the privilege to join a private guided tour by the founder of this beautiful museum, Mr Salim Eddé. I cannot decide which was the most astonishing : the exhaustive collection of minerals or his extensive knowledge on the subject of minerals and geology.
I have visited several natural science museums, but none of their mineral departments can compete with the Mim Museum.
The smaller section dedicated to lebanese fossiles is worth visiting too.
If you are only interested in seeing beautiful minerals, 2 hours should be enough.
If you want to read the information or use the informative panels (and their very user-friendly interface), add an extra hour.

I’ve been to countless museums in Europe, but I don’t remember being stunned like when I felt when visiting this museum. It’s extremely well organized and the collection is extensive. Keep in mind that this is a private museum, meaning 1 person collected this rare collection over the years by himself. I highly recommend visiting this museum.

Really nice collection of minerals and crystals. They are presented very well and there is a lot of information. Their exhibit of fossils is really innovative and the film really gives it an extra dimension. Our daughter loved the dinosaur fossil and the video gamed based on it.

I wasn't planning on visiting the Mineral Museum, but it was one of the stops on the "Hop on Hop off Bus" so I decided to visit it. The truth is that I was pleasantly surprised. There are stones and minerals from more than 70 countries. The way they illuminate the collection makes it very beautiful.

Really well laid out museum with what seems like thousands of incredibly beautiful minerals. It's hard to believe these all exist naturally. The exhibit gives a good explanation of how they form, where they're located and how they are attained.

A gem in Beirut. Beautiful modern building, beautiful exhibition and very special stones and minerals. Incredibly beautiful, beautifully presented. Even if you are not that interested in minerals, you will be amazed by so many colors and shapes. Collection covers the entire world and also includes fossils. Entrance fee is very low.

Hello my kids are 3 and 8
Will they be interested to see this museum?
The older one loves crystals etc
Written August 7, 2018
I guess it would be more interesting to your oldest child, the younger one would only be seeing different colors, and the fossils projection part might be somehow interesting but not easily grasped for sure.

Good evening
Will it be open in Eid vacation as this coming Saturday & Sunday (17-18 ) June ? & how much is the entry ? Thank You
Written June 13, 2018
Hello,
Is it close to city center?
How long does it take to see it all?
Thank you,
Written December 14, 2017
Yes it is in the city center.
Right next to the national museum. It takes as long as you want. Some people are done in one hour, some take longer, as with any museum.
