Downtown is not full of life. Really the cosy places and restaurants are in Hamra. I advice you Gems Hotel.

This street is a must visit in Beirut. They have restaurants, bars, cafes and pubs. Great to spend the whole day over there without getting bored

Nice stretch with decent retail brands and many cafes and restaurants. Nothing too special but probably a must walk for a first time tourist like me.

Any one be in Beirut and does not visit Hamra street is losing a lot. Crowded street but gives you the soul of ancient Beirut.

Hamra street is for sure not "a must see" place. It's famous and expensive, but nothing more. To feel a shopping crowd I would rather recommend Armenia street and its surrondings in Burj Hammoud.

A good tourist area with knock off tacky designer clothes totally over priced. Don't expect any deals here but be sure to hit the side streets. Good food spots here. Several beggars and refugees asking for handouts. They should really clean up the sidewalks and buildings to make it a better experience. But it is authentic Beirut.

I was not impressed with Hamra street. The street was dirty, smelly and filled with beggars and children wanting money. The shops were nothing special and there were only a few places to eat and drink. Traffic was bad and the road was noisy.
