Great way to spend the afternoon in Kuwait City. The aquarium is part of a larger complex that includes an IMAX theater and hands-on learning center for "kids of all ages." Suggestion for adults is to catch an IMAX film in the late afternoon followed by the aquarium. Try to hit the aquarium at 7:00 PM - shark feeding time. Audiences can assemble in front of a large tank and watch a lone diver dole out goodies to small sharks. The aquarium features animals indigenous to the Gulf of Arabia and is a highlight, particularly for travelers who may have been in the region for a while and are missing wildlife. This is a surprisingly amusing way to spend a few hours and learn something. Plus it's always nice to gaze at a giant floor to ceiling tank, and realize how vast and varied the world "below" is.

Moderate entrance fee, which for the combination of IMAX and aquarium entry is probably less than one ticket to the cinema in New York / London (less than 20 USD.)

Really one of the very small number of decent edutainment venues for families in Kuwait... ok I can't actually think of any others. At least that's what I tell myself when I wonder why we took an annual family membership.

There are actually two separate attractions plus an imax theatre inside. The Aquarium is worth a visit once and live exhibits cover mostly the wild dessert and marine life in and around Kuwait.

The Discovery place is really only of interest to those with a mental age of 6 or below - so perfect for me - I especially love the sandpit, as do my two kids. Be warned than the exhibits don't change often so not much to keep bring annual members back - apart from the aforementioned sandpit. That said, there is a lovely coastal walk outside the centre with excellent views and is a great place for a walk or a picnic (this is actually open to the public without a ticket). There are also a couple of restaurants inside (a Pizza Hut and a Burger King as well as a Starbucks).

The imax shows an assortment of short films. Mostly with a nature/wildlife theme but there are others like the film Journey to Mecca. The main audio is dubbed Arabic but the original English soundtrack is available with headphones.

Worth a visit if you have kids but not even on the same planet let alone the same league as a proper museum like the science or natural history museums in London.

I was not at all impressed with this "Science Museum". First all it is mainly pizza, coffee and popcorn with a children's gift centre. The Aquarium is nice but what is deeply concerning are the tiny glass cages that hold the Arabian cat, the owl and bats. These do not seem humane or consistent with a science Centre. In addition the penguin area had a number of lifeless looking penguins standing on rocks with streams of penguin feces running down to the water. In a corner of the penguin tank was a large dead rotting fish. In the Middle East animals are seen as there for people's amusement not to be respected. People here have leopards, tigers and other exotic and endangered animals as pets. They are managed with tranquillizers. Given the amount of garbage around the city, on the beaches and in the water there is little concern generally for environment. This museum fails entirely in educating people about animals or environment. They said they were building an addition for the animals but whether it is to give the ones they have space or cram more in remains to be seen.

We took students here on a field trip, but I would recommend going with your family for a few hours to enjoy the different attractions without the stress of watching a ton of kiddos. At the end of the aquarium you can color your own aquatic animal and then it is displayed on the wall in a giant CGI aquarium tank. The middle school age girls loved this part the most.

I loved the scientific Centre and Aquarium 2 years ago. But a recent visit had me terribly dismayed.

A dead desert rat where another rat was imitating the death pose and then jumping up as if trying to revive it's partner. The dead one had been there for some time which must have been psychologically disturbing for the others, particularly the one that stayed with the body.

Next to that exhibit was one where the lizard in the corner looked sick or gangrenous and it's cage partner had already died and was completely dried out and white in the middle of the tank, again how awful for the partner lizard. The bowls were empty of water and food too.

Moving to the jelly fish there was an obviously dead one floating around and also the exhibit looked depleted. Where are they going? Are the fauna just dying off?

The sea horses which used to hide amongst the flora in the tanks cling on desperately to a fake stick of coral. There is litter of a glass beaker in the sand.

The sand of the cuttlefish tank seems littered with excreted matter and no longer clean. All the tanks seem empty of flora compared to two years ago.

In the main aquarium all the stingrays are gone. Did they die too?

We could only find a security guard to alert to all of this. She called a member of staff who then only switched on the lamp in the desert rat exhibit. Warming up the dead body? And they said nothing to us. To her credit the guard then spoke to the member of staff about the lizards but he ignored her.

This is absolutely a disgusting state of affairs. And the two falcons should probably come out of the 1mx 1m unit too.

This situation is desperate. Some of the animals are exhibiting psychosis with pacing. And children are coming to this exhibition to learn. What is it we're teaching them, is the worrying question.

Please do something about this.

My first visit to the Scientific Center was during the first couple of years of its inception while I was still in school and I still remember the IMAX experience. 12 years down the line, my visit to the place was pleasant. The high temperature of just 20 degrees with a nice chilly breeze along the Arabian Gulf, it is a lovely place to walk to along the coast from the Marina Beach.

We made most of the Afternoon Delight offer (Sun to Wed 50% discount on all tickets from 2pm to 5pm). The aquarium is the highlight of the place with huge variety of coastal, deep sea inhabitants as well as few desert animals. The shark tank is the most intimidating while the pythons and the sea predators come close to freaking you out.

The discovery place is a nice one for the kids to play at. (We booked tickets only to realize it is only meant for kids).

The heritage and history of Kuwait is etched all over the place.

The IMAX 3D experience was good, though I would not rate it as exceptional. The audio heads were below par and if you are watching an Arabic program, the overlap of both the English and the Arabic audio are bit annoying.

Available Starbucks, Pizza Hut within the complex to help the tastebuds.

Enjoy seeing marine life, let your kids learn simple yet perfect scientific facts and get involved in joyful training programs. Meanwhile you can find nice cubes for you and family to get rest and eat snacks. People there are very polite and have a high hospitality index. Gardens and car parking are fabulous, sitting at the gulf is nice while watching kids playing safe. It is a place designed to be visited several times. Don’t miss it.

Great place and the Kuwaiti authorities, with money at their disposal, has spared no efforts in ensuring the place become a must see destination for tourists visiting Kuwait. For locals though, it continues to be a destination of choice with current exhibitions drawing especially the school crowd. It has ample space for expansion - and indeed it should be expanded to have a varied portfolio as well as to accommodate new scientific developments
