Sheikh Mubarak Kiosk located in Mubarkya and it's a heritage place where Shaikh Mubarak Alsabah ( 1896-1915 ) used to set to meet market dealers in order to serve their problems . Pictures for Kuwait Shaikh's available with written information next to each picture . Landmark to be visited . NK

When Shaikh Mubarak Al-Sabah held the Governance in Kuwait, he founded the Customs Department in 1899 and charged on all incoming goods through sea and land ports of Kuwait. He used AlSanqar (the remains of the main gate of the second wall, which is where chiefdom related matters took place until the reign of Shaikh Mubarak) as an office to control the camel caravans taxes. The need for a main control point then came to surface. It was then when Shaikh Mubarak decided to build two pavilions (North and South) that were used each in relation to the sunrise and sunset. The southern Kiosk* was a council of Shaikh Mubarak in the morning; the northern kiosk was used in the afternoon. The origin of word Kiosk (Spelled Kushk in Arabic) is Turkish and Persian which means“Nakhban: guard.

i visited this place many time & i like it because when i saw this kiosk i remember history
,heritage ,glory of prince of Kuwait Shaikh Mubarak alkabeer.

It 100 % worth visit & read the marble near the kiosk they but some words about
Shaikh Mubarak history.

I wonder how it could have been selected for the 10 most interesting places in the Kuwait?

Completely nothing interesting. Just nothing - a 10 stairs and that's it.

Only interesting place is an old souk close to this place.

As I mentioned in the title, you should definitely visit while you are at the Old Souk. It probably isn't worth a separate trip but it is a nice diversion from shopping. It's a historic building that shares some of Kuwait's history with you. The steps are steep and it isn't handicapped accessible.
