Located in the heart of manama, the white building is a traditional souq or market. The U-shaped two-story building is well maintained and there is a fountain in front of the main entrance. Inside the souq, you have all kinds of shops selling spices, clothes and other traditional items. The souq itself is not air-conditioned but some of the shops are. So it is preferable to avoid the hot weather and visit in the mornings or evenings.

Actually I’m initially impressed by the fit and price of the tailor-made shirts I got - but time will determine the true value of that. Make sure you visit a few tailors to get a feel for price and fabric quality but then really it’s a lucky dip on the fit quality.

For souvenirs make sure you haggle; at least 20-25% for a tourist, above that you might need help... but it can be done.

A trip to Bahrain is incomplete without a visit to the Bab el-Bahrain Souk. Its a mix of of old souk alleyways and newer lanes. Its a great place to pick up a souvenir, a bite to eat or even some gold. The place comes to life in the evening, making it a great place to experience the local way of lie.

It's Heart of City Centre, in a way old town. The gate used to be the port and the building used to be immigration office

The Indian and mesopotamian used this port to trade spices and goods since 700 BC

The old people tells the story that the population of Bahrain is the traders and seamen who managed to get in without the notice of immigration officers

Behind the gate the Souq (market place), maintained old style and an interesting 2 hrs walk around .. cloths, traditional spice Market and plenty of Gold Jewellery Shops

This was my second time coming back to the Souk. I love the history and the variety of shops here. We bought some of the famous high-quality Bahraini gold jewelry here. The bartering for everything from gold to scarves is part of the fun. The sights, sounds and scents of the Souk are unique and should not be missed.
As an aside, I accidentally dropped some money from my pocket on the ground at the Souk, and a man came running after me to return the cash. Wonderful!

Quick visit only needed to this souq. Maze of streets . Bought shawl for 5euro - no shifting in price for anything I tried to buy . Nice enough atmosphere- no hassle from vendors . Would give it a 3.5 if I could have

Old style shopping area and definitely the place to find some good souvenirs. I collect fridge magnets from the places I’ve been to and this was the first place I saw them. Obviously other souvenirs available. Quite a few jewellery shops if you want something a bit more special and high quality. And of course carpets, rugs and cushions with beautiful colourful designs. Busy area with lots going on and good atmosphere. Good vibe and felt safe. Opposite the financial area so good to visit both while around here.

the first part of the souk is best for tourists. It's a large market area that is nothing really special compared to other markets in the Middle East. Our experience was that two of three taxi drivers to leave the Gate were cheating skunks.

An enjoyable shopping experience for good quality items. On offer is a variety of new items, antiques and souvenirs for household use and gifts. Very clean and very safe. It is a large area so allow time to wander around.
