We enjoyed the beautiful mosaics and archeological finds.
Unfortunately on presenting our Jordan Pass, the man behind the counter started giving us a tour. We neither asked for or wanted the tour, which was done in a hasty fashion. He wouldn't leave us alone. Once we reached the end he asked for " a gift" for his unwanted services. I said no, but felt very uncomfortable.

I went here a not long ago and was amazed at the intricate work that was presented on the floor. It does have a small entrance fee, but it is well worth it. The amount of time it took to create this was amazing, and the efforts to restore are great.

Generally Madaba is famous for mosaics and the archeologists discovered many of them in a very good condtiotion, so if you like things like that, this is the place to go

We visited Madaba archeological museum and mosaics are nice but when we come to museum we want to enjoy tour alone. At entrance one employee followed us and made me nervous. I could hardly wait to finish the visit. He was trying to say something in bad English. To enter one part of the museum we had to skip the boxes. After the tour he asked tip.
It isn’t ok. We paid tickets, didn’t ask for guiding, he were following us and after that to ask the money is rude. If Madaba wants to be touristic city, it must be stopped.

A unique mosaic can be seen at the room in the lift side just after the entrance, it shows a dancing women and a man. This room know as Al Twal House the name of the family that lived in this room and took care about the mosaics since 1887.

This is almost same as the archaeological park. One of the must see when in Madaba. Amazing ancient mosaic arts are on display.

The museum itself is actually not bad and reasonably interesting. Lots of nice mosaics and a few other bits. It’s included in the Jordan pass so was worth the zero entrance fee. For some reason the guy at the desk insisted on giving four of us a tour, where he rushed from piece to piece pointing out the most irrelevant things. He would approach a mosaic, say “this is a mosaic with two deer and a sheep” and then instantly move to the next one and point out the animals again, rather than any actual historical details. He got annoyed if we lingered at any mosaic for more than 20 seconds, and I mean literally 20 seconds, no exaggeration. It was almost like a comedy sketch. Whole cases of hundreds of archaeological items were covered with the words “this is Byzantine” then immediately on to the next case “this is Roman”. About half way through the group were struggling to contain our laughter at the approach. After a whirlwind 10 tour he wanted a tip.

Visit the museum, insist on no guide.

You are going to have mosaic fatigue in Madaba and this place is full of mosaics. Some of the mosaics are pretty nice but most are out of their place (e.g. hung on the walls) and feel like the same thing again and again. Visit only if you are interested in mosaics and Byzantine history.

Great stop, doesn't take long and good break between Mt. Nebo and Petra. These mosaics were well intact and very interesting.
