I did a 10 day tour of Jordan with my 20 year old son organised through Discover Jordan in March this year. The company had been recommended to me by a friend of mine and our trip exceeded expectations in every way. The key to our great experience was our wonderful, knowledgeable, kind and thoughtful driver, Ghassan. Our itinerary was thoughtfully put together so we saw so much of this amazing country without ever feeling like we were rushing. We visited Aljoun, Jerash, Madaba, Mt Nebo, the Dead Sea, Feynan Ecoresort, mindblowing Petra and stunning Wadi Rum. The guides we had at each place were brilliant - in particular Sami at Petra and Abdul at Feynan. It was a wonderful trip and one we will not forget

My one ‘even better if’: my son and I were visiting during Ramadan and some of the hotels we stayed in did not serve alcohol- it would be good if this was notified in advance

We had a terrific time touring Jordan. Our driver Sabri did an excellent job ensuring we got the most out of our trip, despite the fact that we lost several crucial hours at the border crossing. Jordan has some unforgettable attractions and the people were friendly too!

We booked our trip with our Dutch travel agent who works closely together with Discover Jordan. I would like to make my huge compliments to this Jordanian organisation as they really took care of everything. Jordan is great to travel with teenage kids. So many different things to discover; there is something in for every interest. Discover Jordan did a wonderful job to make our stay unforgettable. I would advise everyone to organise their trip with this organisation: good hotels, excellent guides, good logistics, good communication. They gave us a very safe feeling in spite of the current situation in their neighbour country.

First, Discover Jordan is the fastest responding booking and managing company I have dealt with in Jordan. Got us a price we couldn't resist.

The Mövenpick is extremely welcoming and luxurious. Pools for children, families or adults only. Grandiose architecture and built environment. Instant free access to Internet. Fast room service and incredible staff. A variety of cuisine and leisure facilities. Irresistible scenery and literally the best bed my body has ever laid on.

Would Definitely go there again and again.

We just got back from a truly fantastic tour which the team at Discover Jordan organised. Laura, Noor, Gigi, our fantastic guide Kamal and legend of a driver Sulliman pulled the whole thing together and we’ve got lifelong happy memories from our trip.

We spent only 4 days in Jordan, but with the help of the team, we squeezed in a huge amount in that time. We went swimming in the Dead Sea, canyoning in wadi Muja, exploring in Petra, dune buggy driving, snorkelling in the Red Sea, boxing in Amman etc etc. It was brilliant - best trip I’ve been on in years.

Thanks team!

This is going to be a loooong review, because Discover Jordan had helped us customize one of the best trips of our lives. If you don’t want to read all the reasons why Discover Jordan is so awesome, you can skip to the last couple paragraphs for some travel planning suggestions if you are considering Discover Jordan.

After 132 email correspondence with Laura, the founder of Discover Jordan, we three gals finally packed our bags, camera gear, and got on that plane to Jordan for a 10-day vacation that was long overdue. Just like many others, although I pride myself for having done enough research, I was still concerned about our safety. At one point, I even considered cancelling the entire trip. I have to thank Laura again for being so flexible and patient with me and convincing me to keep the itinerary.

I have never met any travel agent who is as patient, helpful, and resourceful as Laura (though I could picture her rolling her eyes reading my emails…haha~~). Be it questions about the hotels, safety concerns, or rearrangement of activities, food, etc., you named it, I’ve asked or changed it. Yet, Laura was always quick, polite, and accommodating in helping me customize our trip. Most important of all, her reassurance of our safety in Jordan really put us at ease.

We arrived at Amman around midnight. From that point on, everything was smooth sailing. Before we reached the immigration/custom, Ahmad from Discover Jordan was already waiting for us with a sign that had my name on it. He helped us through the immigration then led us to pick up our luggage and meet our then driver & guide, now a friend for life, Mohammed.

I believe it was three days before we left for our trip; based on so many positive comments about Mr. Mohammed on TA, I emailed and asked Laura if our driver would be Mohammed. I am so glad I asked for him, because without him, this trip may not have been this memorable and fun.

So, a Big “THANK YOU” to Mohammed (Hamoudi), who really went above and beyond to make our trip so special and unforgettable. I’ve done quite a bit of traveling in the past 12 years, and again, I’ve never met a driver and guide who really cares about his clients and caters to his clients' needs as much as Mohammed.

There were many parts of this trip that Mohammed could’ve just dropped us off, left us with the site guide, and come back to pick us up later, like what most tour guides and drivers do; but he didn’t. He was there with us, literally every step of the way to make sure we were safe and comfortable with all the arrangements. He even went down the tunnel of Shobak Castle with us because we wanted to. He told me, “Trust me, you will have the best time in Jordan.” He meant it and he delivered it.

When my friend fell from a slippery rock during the canyon hike in Wadi Ibn Hamad, a pointy rock stabbed deep into her knee and instantly caused swelling and bleeding around her kneecap, Mohammed immediately examined and attended her wound. Through the entire time, Mohammed was next to her to make sure she was alright.

That was just one incident. The next incident really made me realize that Mohammed didn’t treat us just like another herd of tourists, but more like a family.

Since my friend's kneecap was pretty swollen, our guide for “Petra through the Backdoor Hike”, Ghassab, who received his physical therapist degree in Germany, examined her knee and confirmed that she was not fit for the steep hiking route. Mohammed immediately made a new arrangement for her so she could wait for us comfortably while he took my other friend and I on the “Petra through the backdoor” hike with Ghassab.

When we finished the hike and were heading down from the Monastery to the Treasury in Petra, to our surprise, we saw my knee-injured friend was riding a Bedouin’s donkey on her way up to the Monastery! It was really more of a shock! Some of you may have read about Bedouins at some tourist attractions tricking tourists on riding their camel/horse/donkey, and then either ripping tourist off or taking them somewhere else. Before I could grasp the entire situation and start panicking, Mohammed already immediately stopped the Bedouin, asked him tons of questions, and made a few calls. Finally, he went to the Bedouin and sternly instructed him where to drop my friend off. He then turned to me and told me everything would be okay; he was able to locate a friend and identify the Bedouin who my friend took the donkey ride from. And yes, my friend came back in one piece, safe and sound.

Mohammed’s hospitality didn’t stop there. When we told him we didn’t fly all the way to Jordan to eat touristy buffet, he took us to some of the best local restaurants/eateries. Thanks to him, we got to try some of the best and authentic Jordanian cuisine, such as the “Upside Down” (JD$50 for 3 people), “Sajya” ($50JD for 3 people), and a super awesome seafood dinner (JD$50 for 3 people) at Stacoza in Aqaba. I can still vividly remember the flavorful taste of the creamy seafood chowder and the tenderness of the freshly grilled fish.

On our last day, as a surprise, Mohammed offered us a very unique chance to experience the life of the locals by inviting us to his home to meet his wonderful family and asking his mother to make us the traditional Jordanian dish “Mansaf” for dinner! I cannot be more touched by this gesture!! This is how friendly and welcoming Jordanians are!

After dinner, due to our request for souvenir shopping, despite that it was already pretty late and he was pretty tired, Mohammed drove us to buy some of the best Turkish and Arabic coffee, sweets, pistachios and smoked nuts (Must buy! Sooo gooood!), and Jordanian pastry (baklava and other stuff) from the stores that only the locals know. He even went out of his way to drive us to Starbucks (it was completely in the opposite direction of our hotel) because we wanted some “Jordan” Starbucks mugs.

I can go on and on about all the wonderful things Mohammed had done for us. He really cares about his customers and caters to their needs. He was attentive, considerate, thoughtful, and very genuine and trustworthy.

Did I feel unsafe during my stay in Jordan? NOT AT ALL! Not even a second was I concerned about my safety! In fact, my friend got so comfortable that she actually lost a few things, but each time they were returned back to us! And catered to our forgetfulness, Mohammed developed a habit of asking us to check our bags for things before we left each destination.

If you want to have the best experience of Petra and to see the most of what Petra has to offer, do the “Petra through the Backdoor” Hike! Discover Jordan is the only agency that arranges this backdoor hike! It was one of the best hiking experience I’ve ever had -- Breathtaking scenery with many awesome photographic hotspots, better and shorter hiking route, and more adventurous and fun. Make sure you ask for Ghassab to be your guide! Ask for Nawar to guide you through Umm Qais, Jerash, Ajloun, Madaba, and desert castles. Ask for Ali who can make the best Bedouin meal in the desert for you! If you are considering a water-filled canyon hike, try Wadi Mujib over Wadi Ibn Hammod. Most importantly, if you want a memorable, awesome, one of a kind trip in Jordan with a caring and funny guide/driver, ask for Mohammed! If Mohammed is not available, ask for Rafat, who is also a cool driver and a hair stylist!

Be sure to exchange for some loose change/small bills/coins for tipping restroom attendant. My rule of thumb is $0.50JD to $1JD.

If you need data connectivity outside the hotel, you can ask your guide or driver. They could drive you to get the data SIM card. Just be sure you have a completely unlocked phone with SIM card slot.

So, will I go back to Jordan? The answer is, “Most definitely.” Who will I ask to help me customize my next Jordan trip? It would be, no doubt, Discover Jordan! Thank you again, Laura, Nawar, Rafat, Ahmad, Ali, Ghassab, Raisa, and, most importantly, Mohammed for everything! Hope to seeing you all again soon!

First off I'm not a client of Discover Jordan, just a tourist visiting Jordan. And I'm truly grateful for what the staff at Discover Jordan did for me. I called Raisa, a friend of mine who works for the company. My visa extension was messed up in Ma'an.

At this point, I was desperate to get my visa sorted out caused the stamp I had on my passport did not state an exit date.

Raisa consulted her boss, Laura who have never met me. Laura immediately offered me to come to Amman and she will help me get my stay sorted out. Surely the next day I arrived, Raisa and Laura told the Operations Manager at Discover Jordan to assist me since he is a local who speaks Arabic and knows which department to go to. Within hours I got my visa extended.
Not only I got my visa sorted out right away on the same day, Laura's business partner, Ray found out about my situation after he arrived at the office.
Both Laura and Ray offered to take me out for dinner to celebrate. But unfortunately I had to catch a bus back to Ma'an. Ray asked the company's driver to take me to the bus station which was quite a far distance from the office.
I never met these people in my life except for Raisa. The things they done for me was beyond words. I believe this company is more than just a travel agency. And they deserve more than just the Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellency!

We had an awesome week in Jordan, I've been to some adventurous locations but there is nothing like Jordan, a diverse terrain from water logged valleys, waterfalls, treacherous mountain trail, open desert in such close proximity, let alone the historical sites.

We cannot thank enough to Discover Jordan (Ray, Laura and Saif), although it started out as a relaxing tour but they are willing and passionate to show us the off-the-beaten options, including various exotic camping locations (where hours from usual tourists camp, a true taste of adventure and local way of life) and exotic routes, like climbing waterfalls, entering Petra through its backdoor trekking and climbing the highest peak in Jordan(deep in Wadi Rum overlooking Saudi Arabia) which we gratefully chose them all.

Apart from the exotic adventures, it is the hospitality the more impressive, the good food prepared at remote campsite, the jokes and the last night party at Ray's homebefore catching our mid night flight home

It's been a week since my friend and I came back and we are experiencing major withdrawal syndromes. All we can talk about is how amazing Jordan was and how much we have the team of Discover Jordan to thank for. Since coming back we have been craving for $.40 falafel sandwiches, knafe, mezze, and some sweet Bedouin tea. Laura and Ray (Founders of Discover Jordan) did such an Amazing job in building our itinerary and making our experience in Jordan an unforgettable one. Since this was a private tour we got the chance to grow close with the Discover Jordan team. We felt like we were part of the family right from the start. The best part about joining Discover Jordan was the comfort level that they provided for us. The tour is very flexible and molded around the interest of the visitors. Everyone with the Discover Jordan team was very nice, friendly, and professional. We felt very safe and relaxed the whole time.
My friend and I are very happy that we chose to visit Jordan. We had a lot of reservations at first being that we were two women from America traveling to the Middle East. However, Laura answered all our questions in a timely fashion and assured us our safety.

Once we landed in Jordan we knew we were going to have a great time. The airport was so beautiful and clean that our pre conceived thoughts about Jordan disappeared. Ray and Sef (our persoanl guides) greeted us with huge smiles even when it was 3:30 in the morning. We were given a welcome package with all the information on the places we were going to visit. Nothing was hidden, everything was laid out since the beginning. In the tote was also a book and DVD about Jordan. Even with this little gesture we felt the professionalism and pride that the company carried. It made us felt good about visiting Jordan and choosing Discover Jordan as our tour guide.

Words and pictures can never describe or capture the beauty of Jordan.
Top places to visit in no particular order:

Jerash- the best Roman ruin site visited thus far. Prior to coming to Jordan, we did a day of self touring in Rome. Visiting the Coliseum and the Forum was quite exciting. How can one city hold so much history we thought, and so well preserved for the most part. However when we visited Jerash we were in awe. The view was absolutely jaw dropping. It seemed like we discovered an unexpected treasure. The forum in Rome cannot even compare. A lot of the ruins were well preserved. Nothing was blocked off. You can walk freely through the site and let your imagination run. Please give yourself extra time to visit the site, it's absolutely amazing and worth while.

Wadi Mujib- the unexpected detour that lead us to one of mother's nature beauty. A hidden valley in the mountains that gave us the adventure of our life time. The trail is a bit intense but definitely worth going. Per- warning, you will get wet. A lot of climbing so good shoes are recommended. The valley is just so beautiful. There were different color rocks and formations. We walked through rushing water rapids that went up to as high as our waist and climb up and slide down rocks with the rapids working against you or pushing you away. For completetion of the trail,Mother Nature grants you with a waterfall shower at the end. Ray and Sef were the best guides for this trail. They were so helpful and encouraging. I was very scared, however with their help I was able to accomplish the trail. I highly recommend doing this and Thank you Ray for taking us there even though it wasn't a part of our itinerary.

Dead Sea- one of the top attractions in Jordan. It's a must do. There's no other sea in the world where you can float and rejuvenate your skin at the same time. The dead sea is very rocky so bring your water shoes.

Petra- one of the main reasons why I wanted to visit Jordan. I've heard many stories, read many articles, and saw many pictures but nothing beats seeing this massive carved city in person. It's the only way to take in all the beauty and appreciate what was left behind by Nabataeans. The drive there was absolutely amazing. We got to see the changes in landscape. We also got the chance to visit Little Petra. Ray set us up with a local Bedouin to give us a tour of Petra. Instead of taking the traditional trail that led us to the front door of Petra, we took a separate trail that led us to the back door of Petra. Definitely recommended. You will see why once you decide to join and visit.

Wadi Rum- our most memorable experience. It's not everyday where you get to sleep in the desert, have the moon and stars as your back drop, and have a camel as a soure of transportation. It's truly surreal and a once in a life time experience. We stayed at Rahayeb desert camp. The tents were beautiful and spacious. We were also given a 4 hour jeep tour of the desert and to really take in the experience, we went camel trekking in the desert.

Aqaba- the best way to relax after a week of exploring. The Red Sea is probably the clearest body of water I've ever encountered. It's nice to experience fish swimming up to you at the shoreline. Riding the waves on a yacht and snorkeling in the jasmine garden was refreshing. There were so many corals and colorful fish. A Definitely must do.

Jordan was overall a wonderful and unforgettable experience because of our well planned itinerary by Discover Jordan. Everything was excuted smoothly and not once did we felt like our time and money was wasted. Ray made sure our day was packed with fun and adventures even when we accomplished everything on our list for the day. He always had an extra site for us to visit. We read through all the comments that were posted about Discover Jordan and for once I can say all the comments were true and all our expectations were met beyond belief. I highly recommend Discover Jordan to everyone. You will come back with no regrets just an urge to go back ASAP and a tongue pallet that only wishes for traditional Jordanian dishes.

Ray, Laura, and Sef,~ Jenny and I truly thank you guys from the bottom of our hearts. You guys were wonder. We are grateful and happy that we got to meet you guys and experience Jordan with you guys. We couldn't have chosen a greater team. You guys are truly amazing and just genuinely kind. We are looking forward to our next visit already. We miss you guys, the twins, and Lou Lou! Once again, thank you for everything!

My wife and I travelled to Jordan last week. It was a wonderful experience. Jordan is a fantastic country, The people are warm, friendly, helpful and honest (I overpayed a couple of times, and was given my money back - with a smile!!!).

The highlights from Jordan...I'll stick to my top four...

1) Wadi Rum:It was magical. The best part of the trip for me. Beautiful, harsh landscapes. The silence was amazing. Vast open spaces. Beautiful steep rock faces with lots of images to imagine (it has a name - pareidolia). We saw a monkey face right next to a lovely lady. And much more. Wonderful.

Wadi Rum reminded me of some of the remote parts of Australia (I'm Australian). But just different. Wonderful. Wonderful.

Very Beautiful.

We also got attacked by camels. Well, not really attacked. We stopped near a herd (is that the correct collective noun for camels?) of camels and they slowly approached us. They eventually sought contact with us. They were really friendly and came up for a pat. Very intelligent and friendly animals. I kid you not, camels have great smiles. A brilliant experience.

Our guide cooked us some beautifully simple and delicious food. Just fried tomato, red onion, pepper, garlic with flatbread, raw veg and creme fraische. So nice, we've tried to reproduce it three times since we came back (my verdict: very good, but not quite the original).

2) Petra: what can you say about Petra that hasn't been said before? Actually, lots. The stone carvings are, of course, better in reality than any photo can depict. But what you never see in photos is the natural beauty of Petra. The gorge leading to the carvings is worth a visit on its own. It's gorgeous!! Beautiful, natural rock formations, vertical cliffs.

The colours are just wonderful. The good news is that you'll go down the gorge and one period in the day and come back at another. The gorge will look completely different because the sun has moved (OK, technically it's the Earth that's rotated) and the light and shadow are completely different.

And the carvings? Just mind blowing. Such skill and ingenuity. Words fail. They really do. Stunning.

On three nights a week, you can visit Petra by night. Magical.

You may not have heard of Little Petra. It's well worth a visit. Nowhere near as spectacular as Petra, but we were not disappointed.

3)The Dead Sea: you've seen the photos of people floating in the Dead Sea. It's not until you get there that you realise how buoyant you actually are. It's an amazing feeling and extremely relaxing. You could safely go to sleep in the water (although I'm sure this isn't recommended by the Jordanian authorities). I can't really describe it. You have to experience it. Go there!!!

And if you're lucky, you might see some tourists actually wearing flotation devices in the Dead Sea. You know, the place where you can't really sink. To be fair, this might have been their first experience of a large open body of water (the men were all macho and dived in, the women seemed a little overwhelmed by the vastness of the water).

4) Jerash: amazing city, makes you just stop and think. The history is so complicated. You can see all the influences which were involved in the development of this wonderful city. Again, photos don't do it justice (unless you're a much better photographer than I, which wouldn't be hard).

Which leads me to my next point...

Guides: Discover Jordan arranged local guides at each location. They are well worth it!!! The have expert knowledge and will point out many features that will not be apparent to the average tourist. They appreciate a tip, so don't be stingey.

Hotels: we were actually surprised by how good the hotels were. We expected to be housed in lower grade hotels, but the hotels in which we stayed were simply excellent. All were first class.

Discover Jordan as a company: Laura (CEO) answered all my emails in the runup to our visit on the same day, usually within an hour or two. They suggested an itinerary and arranged pickups from the airport, transfer to hotels etc etc. All arrangements/transfers went perfectly. What can I say? On a scale of 1 to 5, I'd give DiscoverJordan a 10. I believe they also do customised itineraries. So if you want to spend a couple of extra days in (say) Wadi Rum, they can arrange it.

Last, but certainly not least: our driver. Mohammed. If there's a better driver in Jordan I'd be surprised. Mohammed was friendly, knowledgeable, informative, interested in us (yeah, that's nice), funny, extremely flexible qua time. Also very generous (thanks for the Jordanian flag stickpin, Mohammed. It's staying on my hat forever). Great driver, great guy. Ask for him, unless we're in the country at the same time...then it's "Keep your hands off".

We loved our trip to Jordan. Some of our friends and family worried that it might be safe. Nothing could be further from the truth. It's safe and friendly. Very!!!

We enjoyed every moment in Jordan.

We'll be going back to Jordan. We'll ask DiscoverJordan to arrange our itinerary and hopefully Mohammed will be available when we go back.
