We highly recommend taking a cooking class at beit sitti. You prepare a full meal, fun and rich experience. You will love cooking with Wafaa. Just go and enjoy. You can also buy all their spices !!

Our tour group had the opporunity to engage in this authentic Arabic Cooking which was a great way to spend our last night in Jordan. What an amazing way to complete our tour and interact not only with our group but with others who were also taking part in the experience. The location and cooking experience out on the terrace enabled everyone to take part in the preparation of the meal and walk away with some great recipes. Sitting down together to share the meal prepared was amazing. Loved the kitchen in the home and its contemporary feel. Definitely a fun experienc.

We were able to book a same day evening dinner with Maria (with the accent on the first A) at Beit Sitti and we were so glad we did! It was one of our top experiences in Amman and it is one of the experiences we have most shared with our friends in telling about our time in Jordan.

Make sure you print out the directions and map (including the directions in Arabic) to give to your cab driver. With those directions, our cab driver found it right away.

When we arrived, we were warmly greeted by Maria and we were given a cold glass of delicious lemonade with fresh mint ground up in it.

There was another couple attending the class and Maria gave us the option of cooking outside on the patio or inside. The evening was very pleasant, so we chose to cook outside and it was a wonderful setting overlooking the city of Ammon in a beautiful patio filled with flowers and trees.

We were able to give input on the menu before we arrived. We made several appetizers and salads, including Tambuli and Hummus. The hummus turned out to be the best hummus we had our entire trip and we ate a lot of hummus. It was delicious.

We also made a main course and dessert. We made flat bread and baked it in the outdoor oven. Unlike some other cooking classes we have attended, this was definitely participatory where we did most of the prep work, chopping, mixing, and cooking with friendly supervision by Maria.

Maria and her sister run Beit Sitti and Maria told us that part of what they do is work as a social enterprise, where they hire a local grandmother and have her come in to help teach how to make one of the traditional Jordanian dishes. It helps keep the knowledge alive and helps provide an income to these grandmothers. We had a friendly grandmother show us some things and we laughed together at some of our mistakes.

It was a delightful evening and one of the highlights of our time in Amman. Maria was charming and entertaining and an easy conversationalist. At the end of the evening, we had the chance to buy some homemade spices and blends that they make to give it that delicious taste.

I highly recommend taking the time to participate in this wonderful experience.

Quaint old house on a narrow street that really did remind me of my grandmothers house. Maria was wonderful - so friendly and welcoming - made us feel like we were cooking at a friends house rather than a restaurant.

The class and food were wonderful. You will enjoy your time here.
We had lots of fun.

The setback was having cats around the food preparation and eating area. Many cats...
While some people love cats... we do not .Having them around, limited our experience.

Beit Sitti, which means Grandmother’s House, is an open air kitchen situated in the heart of the old city of Amman. Here you can spend some time with a group (take as many friends as you can)and learn to cook some basic Arab food. Everyone gets to chop some vegetables, mix some ingredients and do some cooking. It is a hands on cultural learning experience cooking several courses of Arabic cuisine in a fairly traditional way while having a lot of fun. If you would like to put on an apron and cook and eat Arabic food with a group while learning all sorts of things about Amman and Arab life this is a lovely way to do it. By the time you have finished you will have built up an appetite that makes the food taste even better. You will also greatly appreciate the time that goes into preparing typical Arab dishes. Your experience is further rewarded with a certificate!

Wonderful evening - cooking, laughing and learning new techniques. Maria was ready for us with cutting boards and knives for each person, a lovely jug of lemonade and the perfect kitchen layout. Under Maria's supervision, we prepared dinner and ate on the terrace. A real must for the home chef looking for a unique experience.

I had a great time at Beit Sitti! The hosts and chefs were wonderful and very friendly. They made the traditional Arabic dishes seem easy to cook and provide the recipes afterwards. I would highly recommend this to anyone who visits Amman and who wants to experience the homemade food that can be difficult to find in a restaurant.

Walking into Beit Sitti is like being transported away from the confused identity of a modernized Amman back to its confident arabesque spirit. You are welcomed by Oum Kalthoum's intoxicating liquid voice and Beit Sitti's lovely owner Maria before you are served home-made mint lemonade to freshen your palate. After, everyone is equipped with his/her own knife and chopping board ready to delve into the delicacy of Middle Eastern cuisine; while the chef explains how to make Mtabal to one person and reprimanding the other on their chopping skills, Maria provides extensive information on the origin and use of the exotic ingredients. Cooking time goes by quick as most of the heavy prep work is already done for you before you arrive, allowing perfect time for you to be completely famished before you start. After the 3 course meal you are served a selection of sensual hot drinks to end your experience.

We were warmly greeted with a glass of chilled mint lemonade. The kitchen and terrace are lovely. The staff were very friendly. My family of 4 and 5 other tourists learned how to cook moutabal, ouzi, cucumber salad, flatbread and a delicious dessert whose name escaped me. Some things had been prepared in advance, like boiled rice and chopped carrots, but we prepared everything else, under the supervision of the chef who was a palestinian refugee lady that didn't speak english. You do not get your own stovetop, the chef does the sautéing and supervises the broiling and the oven. The translator was enthusiastic and funny and really in tune with my family's sense of humor. Everybody had a great time. We then ate the delicious dishes we had prepared on a lovely terrace overlooking the city. We were not rushed for another shift or event. We offered to settle the bill and left when we felt like it. I really hope we will get the recipes via email as promised.
