A fairly large mosque, but not very impressive (as there are many in Istanbul, for example). It is in the heart of the old town, not far from the Roman Theater and you will definitely discover it if you walk around the area. It cannot be visited by non-Muslims.

From my hotel, I walked along the main street just to feel the ambience of the neighborhood. There are shops and stores selling clothings, shoes, spices, sweets, etc around here.

I noted this big mosque along the way and asked a store owner about its name. Learned from him that it is NOT open to tourists, particularly Non-muslims. I just took its pictures from outside and wondered how it looks i side.

Big and crowded place
It is located near the Roman amphitheater, easy to reach.
Women only have access to the floor in a mosque attic room. They can look down into the heart of the mosque on gems covered with drapes.

I walked past this mosque on several occasions but i believe that only muslims can enter so i did not try. At prayer times believers came from all directions and you could catch a glimpse of them through the door practicing their faith. Outside the mosque there s a bookstore that sells all types of religious books. They have English versions of the Koran for 10 JD should anyone want to learn more about the religion.

One of the oldest mosques in Amman, rebuilt by King Abdullah I in 1932 on the site of the one built by the second Khalifa Omar Bin Al-Khattab 640 AD.
Luckily it was opened before one month after a long term of renovation and expansion. Nice old mosque in a crowded area of Downtown Amman. Don’t forget to visit the library of Husseini Mosque nearby.

We visited the mosque while looking around the old town. We were respectfully dressed and it was outside of prayer time. A local shopkeeper took us to the door (as it was not obvious which one) but a male cleaner inside began shouting and yelling at us even as we approached. The local man then got into a massive argument with him trying to persuade him to let at least my husband in but no.... we left them going at it hammer and tongs. Take my advice and give this a big miss. A very poor impression given to visitors.

This is the great Mosque downtown, it is surrounded by shops from all directions, always busy and at least 50,000 people walk by every day. In addition to praying, the people would pick up their daily needs.

If you are downtown, definitely stop by and enjoy the architectural beauty and pick up fruits, spices, bread, cloths, souvenirs, or any of the hundreds of things that you will find their.

I walked around the mosque and eventhough it was not prayer time I did not go in but glanced from the door. I saw a couple of tourists go in with the girl fully covered and accessing from the door for women; they had no issues as i saw in other reviews.
Looks nice from the outside and not much on the inside for what I could see.

If you are women you are allowed to enter the Mosque in the women's section, even if you are not Muslim. Although most don't speak english, the women were very friendly and it is very interesting
