History!
Jan 2020
There's so much history in this city that is mind boggling, so much to see and do that you would need a lifetime to fully comprehend, it's amazing how much you learn about human kind in such a relatively small place.

A visit you don't want to miss on this side of the world.

interesting history but definitely not white.

A garden city was first discussed around 1903 and resulted in 4000 buildings built in a unique style in the 1930 s .
There is a house turned into a museum which is worth a look or not as the case may be.

Total waste of time

If you are into architecture it could be interesting for about 5 minutes. Other than that, the buildings are in disrepair for the most part and they aren't white anymore but colored with years of grime.

Israel is a beautiful country but not known for the cleanliness of it's buildings. From the sands and dust that comes form the Sahara in the spring to the smog from years of exhaust to the fact that no one cleans the outside of the houses to years of neglect in many cases, this isn't a hot spot.

Interesting historic architecture

The White City area of Tel Aviv provides a good insight into a particular form of architecture that came out of Germany in the 1930's. The Jewish settlers coming to the beginning of this city brought the hottest architecture of the time with them. In fact there are around 4,000 Bauhaus style buildings in Tel Aviv.

While many of the buildings are not in the best shape there are others that are in pristine shape.

Need to be an enthusiast to fully appreciate
Nov 2019 • Couples
We recently visited the museum for a curator guided talk about the origin and development of the White City - Tel Aviv.

The lecture, and the accompanying exhibition, were thorough, to say the least. While they include a few interesting anecdotes, I find it hard to believe they would be of much interest to a casual visitor.

If you love architecture
Sep 2019
White City is just a general area in Tel Aviv built in the Bauhaus style. Lots of buildings to admire, some beautifully restored and others in need. Cafes, shops and residential are housed in these buildings. Good idea to go on a Sabbath (Saturday) when most shops are closed and you can stand back and admire. There is a small gift shop with some info & gifts and there is a walking tour available. With a little bit of knowledge about characteristics of the design period you can easily spot many of the elements in this small area. Better than the Bauhaus Museum in Berlin

Interesting but frequently not in the best shape

The best examples of Bauhaus White City in Tel Aviv are found on the Dizengoff Square, around Bialik Square, and along Rothschild Boulevard. Some more impressive than others. There are, however, many other White City buildings on the side streets, quite a portion of which are in various states of neglect or at least spotty maintenance.

Fascinating if you're interested in the Bauhaus period
Nov 2019
There are thousands of Bauhaus buildings in Tel Aviv, some renovated, others ramshackle, but it's very easy to walk around the area and see some great examples of the genre. The Bauhaus centre offers an introductory film and a headset for a walking tour of the area which was invaluable in understanding the architecture. However, the narrative is very repetitive as there isn't really much to say once you understand the basics so it's probably only worth paying for one headset!

The International style architecture of Tel Aviv are a MUST and now you can see many of them perfectly refurbished and transformed in luxury hotels, restaurants or apartments. Very interesting for who is into architecture especially.
