If you are in Tel Aviv, you shouldn't miss this truly hidden gem, which gives you great insight into the history of the State of Israel and Palestine, through the eyes of jewish immigrant from Czechoslovakia. Except of several tens of photos which are on the walls, you may spent hours and hours browsing about 50+ thematical archives, which contains hundreds of photos each. You may also purchase postcards, calendars, magnets, t-shirts, etc. I definitely love this place! Hope to have a chance to go there again.

We found out about this shop in a guidebook. It houses the extensive archives of one photographer, Rudi Weissenstein, who photographed early Tel Aviv and parts of Israel. You can purchase reproductions as posters, photos (including on archival quality paper), or magnets, but really browsing these historic photos is fascinating in itself. It's an easy walk to get there in TLV, and there are some good falafel shops nearby. It's still owned and run by the family.

Entering The Photohouse is like entering a different time zone, a beautiful and intimate place filled with historic photographs ranging from famous portraits, the first days of Tel Aviv, lives of the new immigrants coming to Israel, landscapes and much more taken by the famous photographer Rudi Wisenstein. You can purchase the photographs in any kind of format and size and enjoy the explanations of the staff.
The shop is located not far from Bezalel market, Bialik house and the old City Hall.

This is a small store selling prints of the photographs of a single artist. The artist was a well known photographer at the dawn of time and all things considered his pictures are quite good and reflect Israel in its infancy. But, if you are in Tel Aviv for a day or two DO NOT think that because this is voted as the number 2 spot in Tel Aviv that it should be anywhere near the top ten. It is a tiny store. The prints are expensive. Unless you are a die hard fan of this photographer I would not make this a destination. Although, it is near the market - so one could stop by for a glance. The rating is actually 3 stars from me - but the bell curve.

Hi, we are sorry you were disappointed from your visit. however, we do mention in the "about us" section that we are an old photography shop and exactly what we do and have here, so one can read it before coming here and decide if it interests him or not, and then not be disappointed ;-). it is indeed the store of a single photographer, but one who took almost a million(!) historical photos of Israel, all kept in our archive and available to the public- all you need to do is ask and see more binders of photos beside the ones that are on display. if someone likes photography and history, we believe he should find interest in our store. we do hope you enjoyed the rest of your visit to Tel-Aviv, all the best, The PhotoHouse team

This little shop is truly a treasure and a not to be missed opportunity to delve into history. I took a group there this past summer and we were all appreciative of the time and energy that has gone into preserving this truly unique and special collection.

If you want to see a photographic history of Israel then go to this shop. The photographs were taken by the owner's grandparents so there is a feeling of looking into the family photo album as well as looking into the family album of Israel. You will see pictures of Tel Aviv in the late 1930's, camel caravans, and of famous people such as Ben Gurion and Golda Meir. This is such a treasure trove that israel is digitally archiving the photos. Photography still lives and thrives in this family with Ben's new digital photography techniques. This is "must stop" for anyone visiting Tel Aviv.

This is a beautiful place. I visited several times and each time was greeted with the biggest of smiles and warmth. It is amazing to be able to revisit old photographs of not only Israel, but of Tel Aviv itself. Being able to browse through the many many archival folders displayed in the store is fascinating. Postcards, magnets, posters, books, and a documentary made about this unique shop are all available to buy and take a little piece of Israeli history back home with you.

This shop was just a truly magical experience which gave me a sense of nostalgia. After visiting the store i saw the movie. It was incredible to understand the history of not only the photography but of the family itself. Ben, the grandson of Rudi Weissenstein, (the photographer) still works and runs the store today. I would strongly recommend coming in and exploring a part of Tel Aviv, you cant find anywhere else.

Thank Michal and Ben for all your help!!
