Our guide Avi adapted the discussions toward the kinds of questions the group asked.. this is very important when taking a guided tour.. let the guide know what interests you, otherwise you're going to get the standard spiel. Avi told us about the history of the neighborhoods through the architecture. The tour was very enjoyable, but we had to leave the group before it was finished, as we had another engagement later in the day. Overall, highly recommend Sandemans tours, they have all been excellent.

Huge disappointments! First: if Old Jaffa tour is advertised everywhere as FREE (yes, with capitals) and then almost the first thing you hear the tour guide is telling that he doesn't get salary for this tour and you need to pay minimum 50 shekels per person as a tip. Very bad impression. Sure tips can be earned and I happily pay them, but if it's "FREE", you don't tell a price for a customer. Also gives bad impression about SANDEMANs as these are their most popular tours and they don't pay salaries for their guides?! Old Jaffa: the group was too big (even it was divided) and our guide didn't use speakers. He has quite strong voice but with all background noise and just when he turns his head, you can't hear him well. I know Jaffa has many layers of history and to tell as much as possible, you might tell in same sentence about something which happened 50 years ago and 2000 years ago. But this bumpy story with limited hearing, I decided leave the tour after 30 min. Modern Tel Aviv and Street Art: got the same guide as earlier so I had very little expectations.. The Tel Aviv part was quite ok. Street Art part was the worst ever. Basically we just walked throught Florentin. There are lots of street art but the guide hardly knew any background stories (he only translated one Heprew graffiti and told about #wewantnaama). So if you want to have a real street art tour, find some other professionals. Or use Google. There are plenty of addresses and stories about street art and artists in Tel Aviv. So this Modern Tel Aviv tour would have been ok if it wasn't advertised also as a street art tour.

Hello Elmiina, Thank you for taking the time to review us on TripAdvisor and for choosing us in Tel Aviv We really appreciate your feedback as it helps us to continue making improvements and ensure that tours and experiences promoted by SANDEMANs NEW Europe meet the high standards that travellers expect. We check our online bookings regularly before the tour to make sure that the group size is unlikely to exceed our maximum of 30 people per group. On rare occasions, the group sizes may go over this number due to unexpected guide unavailability or unusually high demand without reservation on the day. Nonetheless, in the event of a larger-than-usual group, the guide will do everything they can to ensure that guests can follow them comfortably. We are truly sorry if the size of your group had a negative effect on your experience. We are also concerned to learn that your tours did not meet your expectations. The Free Tour is described as such because there is no maximum or minimum amount any guest is expected to tip; the idea is that every guest should feel comfortable to tip in such a way that reflects their individual budget and what they thought the tour was worth. Any guest who does not wish to tip may decline to do so, and the guides we work with are aware that pressuring guests to tip goes against the Free Tour philosophy. We are truly sorry if your experience did not reflect that. This is not only detrimental to your enjoyment of the tour, but undoes much of the hard work of ourselves and the other guides we work with to promote the concept of a free tour. Thank you once again for reviewing us on TripAdvisor and for joining the tour. We hope to see you again soon on other tours, so we may show you that this experience does not reflect the usual standard of service. Kind regards, The SANDEMANs Team

I always choose the free walking tours wherever I travel to get the main points of the city and then keep exploring on my own. This tour, in this sense, has the downside that it only covers one neighbourhood - granted, it IS probably the most beautiful one in Tel Aviv and I understand that trying to cover more might be too much for a free tour. I didn't enjoy this tour too much as the guide seemed quite distracted, kept jumping from one topic to another or repeating the same stuff. It made it really hard to follow the storyline (in fact, it didn't feel like he had a storyline at all) and for someone who didn't know much about the history of the city - I couldn't say I learned much. However, they did show some nice corners of Old Jaffa and the best viewpoints. Another thing I don't enjoy much is when they tell you how much they expect you to tip them. I understand this is only called a free tour and you're expected to tip, but saying "people usually pay 50 NIS for this" is really unnecessary. I think people are able to decide themselves how much they wanna pay, and this tour definitely wasn't worth that much. Unfortunately I can't tell if there's a better tour that would help you get that first impression of the city to allow you to explore on your own later, but this tour didn't really reach my expectations.
