Josh gave a very in-depth tour of the plight of exile from Jerusalem and ancient Israel to Babylon. It was a fascinating experience. We made pit stops at historic, ancient cities where Jews sojourned, like Damascus, Ninveh, amongst many other sites where prophets like Yehezkel and Yona are buried and their tombs are there to this very day.

Josh has a very gentle voice, yet it is full of enthusiasm and it's very drawing. I highly recommend Hartuv tours as you will get much more than you ever bargained for.

Josh took our synagogue on a virtual tour through the Hanukkah story - "The Maccabees: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly." We traveled through the hills around Modi'in, the ancient city in Israel where the battles with the Greeks took place. He brought the history to life with maps, pictures, illustrations, Jewish sources, songs and video clips that gave context to the story. It was an entertaining, educational and exciting tour. Thank you, Josh!

We did a tour of the Tel Aviv Central Bus Station, the "last chance" tour. Josh was so informative, knew his subject, and presented it with fun and humour. He had visual aids, was easy to hear and gave some great suggestions. We really enjoyed ourselves and highly recommend Josh. This tour could have actually been 3 or 4 hours, there was so much information and so much to see. Which leads to my only small criticism: because there was so much to see, we went just a little faster than I would have liked to fit it all in in the allotted time. But that was it. Josh even supplied us with sfenj and candlelighting for Chanukah :) Full disclosure: we are related, but I wouldn't write this review if I didn't truly believe it.

My husband and I have "gone" on several virtual tours with Josh through our synagogue. Each and every tour has been well constructed, exciting, and entertaining. Josh is a wealth of historical knowledge coupled with pop culture. He combines each tour with poetry, music, and Biblical reference. When any tour is announced, we organize our schedule so as to not miss a minute. Highly recommended!

Having Josh HarTuv guide us through Jerusalem's Old City was an exceptional experience. His deep knowledge of the Old City's complex history and significant ancient sites was clear in his enthusiasm and clear explanations. He tailored the tour to our interests (one first-time non-religious tourist, and one regular visitor). I hihgly recommend allowing Josh to introduce you (or re-introduce you) to the Old City.

Josh worked collaboratively with our mission and scheduled once in a lifetime experiences for our group. My daughter is studying Modern Middle East History this year. I wished for her to visit Jerusalem beforehand and see other historic as well as very relevant sites for her upcoming studies. The surprises and highlights were only possible because of Josh’s insights, openness and sometimes off the beaten path approach.

My daughter’s teacher is impressed with how our experiences were curated giving her a unique perspective and context for this semester/year. Josh was flexible and willing to accommodate the spontaneous interest of our group to visit the Dead Sea. We were very grateful.

Most importantly we will remember the Book of the Shrine housing the Dead Sea Scrolls at the Israel Museum. Ellie Wiesel was my professor. I am grateful for the opportunity to fulfill a lifelong wish and promise I made.

Josh Hartuv did a virtual tour of famous Jewish holy sites in Exile. It was phenomenal! Josh is filled with knowledge, amazing energy and enthusiasm. He captured our hearts and minds: he was attuned to our questions, conveyed very interesting information, and was easy to follow. He also uses music in his tour, a major plus!
I would definitely do another tour with him - you can't ask for a more knowledgeable and more personable tour guide. Amazing job!

Josh is THE BEST tour guide! He met us at the airport and made sure that we got to our driver. He was always on time and kept us on schedule. Beyond just logistics, by the end of a week, we considered Josh a member of our family. He was conscience-us, has great spirit, love of Israel and the world, knows his history in incredible detail. He is super fun and great with teenagers. My son has cognitive issues and Josh connected with him in the most wonderful way to keep my son engaged throughout the whole trip. Josh prepared the most meaningful Bat Mitzvah ceremony on Mt. Masada for my daughter, we went from Rosh Pina to Jerusalem to the Dead Sea. We star gazed by a campfire in the Negev at night, we Jeep toured, we Kibbutz toured, we dug in an archeology excavation, we beached in Tel Aviv, we shopped at the Shuk. It was everything that I dreamed the trip would be and more!

In preparation for Shavuot, we took a "virtual tour" of Mount Sinai, the Sinai desert and
the Negev. It was brilliant: erudite, entertaining, enchanting. The tour brought together archeology, history, sociology, anthropology, along with a remarkable selection of traditional texts from Jewish sources. The result was a quiltwork of insights and epiphanies, that was intellectually serious and spiritually uplifting. Maybe the most remarkable thing about it was how it worked on different levels at the same time. A smart ten year old would love it. And a well-read adult would love it. (I know this because I am an adult with the sophistication of a ten year old). Really, it was a work of genius, and one of the best hours I can remember. I am eager to use Hartuv for non-virtual tours after the pandemic, but in truth, I will also continue to go on virtural tours, if they are on offer.
