Helen was recommended to us by a friend, and we’re so glad we booked her. She took us on a marvellous tour of the Old City of Jerusalem and was so knowledgeable. She was also very patient and understanding as our young kids (who’ve been touring for nearly 7 weeks) arrived for our tour in a mess than ideal mood. She was all set with scavenger hunt print outs, and was flexible when we realized mid-tour that we’d need to stop for ice cream to keep everyone happy and engaged. My husband is a Jewish history fanatic, and he said he learned a tremendous amount of new information on this tour. For me, I couldn’t stop marvelling at how much we must’ve missed every time we walked through the old city without Helen!!

Helen guided a group of us to Mount Masada and Dead Sea. She shared her deep knowledge and balanced perspective very generously; telling us what we were seeing out of the window as we went as well as detailed stories of the main sites we visited. We learnt so much, and very much enjoyed her professional manner and delightful company. Highly recommend.

I lived in Israel for 10 years 20 years ago. I lived 4 years in Jerusalem in Rehavia which is walking distance to the Old City. I have been living in the USA, and when I visit Israel, I always make it a point to go to the old city with my local BFF’s and explore it again like never before. This time is more special because I had a group tour with a few of my good ol’ friends from Manila and London because we were all in Israel for a special wedding. 🤍💙 We had the amazing opportunity to meet our lovely tour guide Helen in the old city of Jerusalem— who’ is superb and a lot of Fun! ! She took us to this hidden gem “the Austrian hospice” in the old city where I discovered the best apple strudel (outside of Austria of course, lol). Amazing… yum! I highly recommend Helen to be your tour guide in Jerusalem or in any part of Israel, since you never know what pleasant surprises you may encounter with her while touring the Holy Land of Israel.

Thank you for your kind review, I am really glad I even managed to introduce a former local to somewhere new! Sites are constantly changing and being upgraded and more and more tourist venues are being developed, so hopefully even the seasoned visitor to Israel will always find somewhere of interest that they didn't know about before.

Really interesting and informative tour of Old Jerusalem. Helen has in-depth historical knowledge and relates that to current circumstances with a stream of fascinating and often humerous anecdotes. Also visits vantage points that would be unknown to any tourist. By the end of the day I was physically exhausted but Helen was still raring to go, offering us even more options. Many thanks for a truly memorable day!

I am delighted you enjoyed your tour and enjoyed the off the beaten track locations. Due to the many steps and uneven terrain, you are quite right that the Old City definitely provides a good work out!

I've done Old City tours before and this time was taken to several places I'd never been to. It's important to give any tour guide the makeup of your group so the trip can be tailored. As several people left along the way due to other commitments, the background of the participants changed, and Helen appeared to adapt the tour to that. Total, we were there for about 7.5 hrs (including lunch time); also important to consider. I wrote this was not for kids, but that was due to the detailed historical background she imparted. A must is going to the Western Wall at night (open 24/7), as it feels totally different. A less well-known outdoor rest spot w/coffee with whipped cream/sacher tort is at the Austrian Hospice (a hotel). Time the visit to go up to the roof (5 NIS) at the call-to-prayer time, and read the plaques on the 2nd floor to learn about the v important ppl who have stayed there. Recommendation for a serious traveler with a lot of time? Read up on your own first, do your own whole day trip/s. Then splurge on Helen who will either KNOW the places you missed, or add the local stories that are not in guidebooks.

Many thanks for your recommendation! One of the important qualities of a guide is to be able to gauge the knowledge of the group. Whilst some people like to study a place in advance, others prefer to explore using the knowledge of the guide. I am happy with either approach and usually find enough information to supplement even the most diligent reader. As you said, there is a lot that only a local can know that is not written in the guide books.
