Located in the Old City’s Muslim Quarter, this is the world’s third holiest shrine to Muslims (after the Kaaba in Mecca and the Tomb of the Propher in Medina), which signifies the spot where the Prophet Muhammad is believed to have ascended into Heaven.

Very peaceful place. Just watch you don't spoil the beggars. If you give one, you've got to give ALL.

Although non-Muslims are not allowed in the mosque itself, Jews are unwelcome even on the surrounding mount to the point that there are Muslim Arab women who yell and spit at groups which are obviously Jewish. My advice is to avoid this location unless you...More

I visited during Ramadan and the place was buzzing. The friendliness of the local people blew me away and the best way to summarise it all would be say 'you have to go once to see for yourself'. The Dome of the Rock seemed to...More

Visitors cannot enter this mosque, but you can view the detailed mosaic exterior and the gold dome. Actually it is visible from numerous locations in jerusalem, but seeing the detail up close and its proximity to the othe quarters of the Old City is extremely...More

Access is limited. We were not allowed in for our entire length of stay. The access from the Jewish Quarter is very difficult.

If you are not Muslim, you probably won't be allowed to enter the mosque, but you can admire it's beauty from the outside. This is probably because Muslims pray 5 times a day, so it would be incredibly distracting to have groups of tourists walking...More
