I recently attended a Temple Mount tour guided by Melissa. I was invited by a friend and so High on the Har was a new ministry that I hadn’t heard of. I was disappointed by the attitude of our tour guide who continually disrespected and ignored our police escorts as well as disrespecting the observant Jews who joined the walk but were not part of the tour. As people who are suppose to be a light to the nations, I believe we should all be respectful of our neighbors no matter their beliefs and especially respectful of those in authority (and even more so for those whose job it is to protect us). Although I enjoyed my walk around the Temple Mount, I was embarrassed to be considered part of Melissa’s tour group because of her attitude towards everyone else who was not part of the tour. I do admire Melissa’s boldness and know that the Lord has such great uses for this gift, but I do feel that she is missing the elements of loving your neighbor. I pray that the Lord gives Melissa a heart of love for her Jewish neighbors as well as Arabs (because she also said some brass things against Gazans and Muslims having no sensitivity to the situation). Maybe I’m just not familiar enough with her work but in light of how I saw her lead the tour today, I no longer have interest in her ministry. In such unprecedented times, I believe our witness is so important to those who are searching especially if we are joining them during an important mitzvot. How can we be a light to the nations if we are being disruptive, argumentative, and rude? I do not wish to write such a harsh review, but I do want this to be acknowledged as an outsider to this ministry and hope that this message can be received in love and understanding. We are all flawed human beings! But it is also up us as members of the same community to hold each other accountable.
