A beautiful church to visit and also has concerts
Dec 2019
A month ago a friend who closely follows events in Israel mentioned that there was a Christmas concert at Ascension Church.

We had never been to this area and were very impressed by not only the concert but also the beautiful painting that covered the inside walls as well as the ceiling. Concerts are not held on a regular basis but if you are able to schedule your trip when there is one it is very worth while, the accoustics are very good.
There is also a good view of Jerusalem from the grounds.

A spectacular view over the Judean desert and the Dead Sea
Sep 2019
Augusta Victoria is an active hospital mainly for East Jerusalemites and surronding villages in the West Bank. There is a large and beautiful church, well worth a visit and walking through the compound and to the back of it you will come to an impressive view over the Judean Desert, with the Jordanian mountains in the background and the Dead sea so if you are anyway on the Mount of Olives, well worth a visit

Worthwhile side trip
Mar 2019
The chapel at the Auguste Victoria is one of the most beautiful churches in the Holy Land and the views from the building's tower are gorgeous. It is well worth the effort of finding your way there!

A German church
Dec 2017 • Solo
On top of the Mount of Olives you find the Augusta Victoria compound with a hospital and a church. I visited this so called Ascension Church and at first did not like it, but after some time I found it very pleasant to look at its construction, the mosaiques and altar. If you are fit, you can climb up the many stairs of the tower and look as far as the Dead Sea. Visit the Kaisersaal, too. The view of Jerusalem from Augusta Victoria is amazing. For groups it is possible to listen to the explanations of the Protestant pastor.

German built hospital, church, compound. Now a hostel?

Some say it is the site of the Last Supper. At the very least it offers great views of the city. You can see the Dead Sea from here. And their is a small museum. Worth the climb? Maybe

Nice compound run German Protestants

A large and nice compound in Jerusalem not too far from the Hebrew Uni. on Mt. Scopus. A nice view on the surroundings including the Dead Sea on a nice day. Clean and quite. Very nice church and a small museum recently renovated by the German Archaeological Institute here. The lodging is simple, clean and nice, rather basic breakfast.

Spectacular view of Jerusalem and it's soundings
Nov 2013 • Couples
From the top of the tower there is a very unique view to all 4 directions.
Because the church is situated on the eastern ridge you can see on one side the completely dry Judaea desert on the other the "wet" side of the city.
Its both a beautiful view of the city (old and new) and the area around it.
