A small museum in beautiful buildings. The exhibition we saw Perestroika- is certaily worth the visit, especially in these dark days. Telling the personal story of russian immigrants currently working in haifa museums, in a most extensive explorative way. Accompanied by very deep texts that make one reflect and try to feel and understand the meaning and impact of forced or voluntary immigration on the life of family members , from many points of view

My husband assured me the museum was open — it wasn’t! Lovely exterior of the buildings. Close to many other interesting places.

If you've got a bit of time to spare this is a good choice. The museum is in a restored home so you get a good idea of what things were like before and what they can be again with a bit of love and hard work (and of course, funding).

Interesting movie about the people who came to Israel before it was Israel and informative exhibit about Wadi Si'ach which we had actually climbed down a few days earlier.

When I went (April 2022) there was just 2 small rooms about 30 years of immigration to Israel from the Soviet Union. This is a niche subject that I had no interest in. There wasn't even any artefacts to look at, just information boards. I was expecting it to be about the city of Haifa

As you can guess from the name of the museum, this is all about the city of Haifa. There really isn't very much to see unless you're an inhabitant of the city or really really interested in Haifa. There's some information in English, probably only a little less than Hebrew, but really there's an overall limited amount.

There's a 2nd building hosting a children's toys themed collection and an art collection. The latter of which seems to have been thrown together to fill up space. The museum is well maintained and I do sense a love of the city, but it's not enough overall for the tourists me thinks.

Visited today with the kids. Entrance fee is 30 shekels per person and a family ticket for four cost 80 shekels. Comes to about $5 per person. I'm starting with the price because had this been free, I would have given it 2 stars.
What we got was one room about the history of Haifa. Nothing interactive, weird artistic movies on the only screen in the room. Impossible to engage kids with such a display. The information available there may be interesting but if you want to read about Haifa and look at pictures, you can do that online for free.
Next, there's a small porcelain display. We learned nothing about porcelain, how it's made, it's history or anything of the sort. Looking at the display took about 10 minutes.
We love museums and have visited hundreds of museums. This place should be called a small visitor center about the history of Haifa plus a porcelain art gallery and should be free.

Do not expect much only some pictures of the city from then and now and you have to pay 25 Shekels to enter just to see some pictures.

This city museum sits in a beautiful renovated building in the German Colony. It is actually 2 buildings, (one of them was a school) with exhibits about the city’s history and lots and lots of maps and pictures. I can understand the criticisms of some of the other reviewers, however we had a great visit because we were part of a 45 minute tour with a professional museum guide. She was very knowledgeable, but spoke too fast for most of us.
Unfortunately, the city has approved an ugly monstrosity of a hotel right next to the museum and surrounding it on 3 sides. The construction has already made the museum basement (which used to be accessible and part of the visit) inaccessible due to water damage. It is hard for me to understand how the city approved this ugly project which is clearly endangering the city’s own museum.
I think the museum is worth a visit if you are visiting the German Colony, and particularly if you are a Haifa resident.

Very, very little information provided. Ten times worse than reading a chapter in Lonely Planet about a city because even that is a positive experience while this was mind-boggling. I don't think I have ever been to a city museum as bad as this one. The woman at reception/the gift shop was not friendly or all that helpful when I asked questions about things that were not but should have been covered in the museum, such as the current demographics of the city and when/why those people came.

This was not even worth 4 shekels, so to charge 35 is a joke.
