We visited the Zoo in May 2022 and we are totally disappointed and sad about the whole situation there. First and foremost the animals live in small and dirty places , they seem neglected and unhappy and are dirty, as well. Moreover there are mo stuff members and the whole Zoo was disorganized. Last, the paths of the Zoo were dirty and the general conditions were disappointing. All in all we DO NOT recommend the visit there. We feel totally sorry for these animals and angry with the situation of the Zoo. They are not professionals

Heartbreaking. This animals deserve so much better. I will never visit this zoo ever again. My heart aches for all the animals that are there. They look so sad. I think some of them gone mad and some are just given up on their lives. "Prison" cages are too small, some animals are alone without a partner, you can just see the misery in their eyes. Prior to visiting this zoo we went to the one in kiryat motzkin, animals there look alive and I don't know if happy is the right word but they look healthy and OK. I just hope animals in this haifa zoo will be moved to a better zoo or a sanctuary. Sad just so sad.

I love going to a zoo and seeing animals, I don't have issues seeing animals in cages as I do not know much about the animals and zoos obviously do. This zoo have got it so wrong!

This zoo is on a mountain side and is very steep to go down and back up again. To cut the climb up we went in the bottom of the building that houses the reptiles, up a flight of stairs to the museum floor and up another to what looked like an exhibit that was being renovated. At the top of the stairs we could turn right to leave the building to the outdoor cafe, or left to the exhibit room. There was no door on the room and no sign saying what was in the room.

In the room at the far end were lots of animal cages, when I got closer I burst into tears. The cages had hamsters, guineapigs and rabbits, all animals that I have kept as pets and know a lot about their needs. The hamsters were in hamster cars, the guineapigs were in hamster cages and the rabbits were also in hamster cages! Rabbits need space to be able to hop three times in a line, there was no chance of this in the cages they were in!

None of the cages had water, none had food. One slightly larger cage had two rabbits begging for attention from us, I used what water I had left to fill up as many bottles as I could, then animals all moved as fast as they could to the water bottles to drink. One cage had a rabbit that was very agitated, there was a second rabbit in the cage which was dead. Many cages had dead animals.

This sight and what I saw has given me nightmares ever since. At first I thought the animals were from the petting zoo as we had just missed the time slot for petting the animals, but surely if they were someone would have seen there was no water and someone would also have noticed the dead rabbits hamsters and guineapigs too!

We hardly saw any keepers all day, after seeing what we saw we left. I emailed the zoo to ask what I saw and why they animals were left like that in a room so accessible to all. It has been 3 weeks with no reply so I have decided the world of trip advisor needs to see how this zoo treat animals.

Please see the photos I took as evidence, I apologise if they upset anyone!

This zoo is certainly not educational, the animals are in concrete enclosures far far too small for them to have any meaningful existence, there is nothing to keep them entertained and it shows. The bear enclosure has got to be the most pitiful area I have seen with the poor creatures within clearly suffering.
This criticism can be replicated for the monkey and ape enclosures as well as the camel area.
The owls are kept in areas smaller than a double wardrobe with no room to stretch their wings let alone fly, the emu enclosure no wider than the emu itself.
I do not enjoy seeing animals held in the same conditions as battery hens!
The zoo is run down, the standing water pools and ponds are stagnant and no one seems to care about the rubbish thrown into them, cans, bags, even old paint brushes.
I don't oppose zoos that are educational and work to study endangered species, with a hope to protect the species; zoos that have sufficient space for the animals to have some meaningful existence, but this zoo is too small and the animals are clearly suffering.

I am very sad to see all the animals in such small cages and some even without a partner! It is very clear that this zoo has no passion for animals but only passion for money. Instead you should make it an animal park where the visitors are caged instead. Like “knuthenborg safaripark” in Denmark.

limited amout of exihibits and animals. Poorly maintained. The Place was full of ongoing construction projects and it was a total waste of time. Concessions also limited and the price high. Was not worth it.

If you love animals do not go to this zoo. Condition of animals is poor, cages are dirtly and cramped. Very upsetting. We did send a letter to the city and to the zoo expressing concern for the zoo. Recently read that several monkeys died there (can't remember the circumstances, might have been a fire?) and I am not surprised. Made us not want to ever go back to Haifa..

My boyfriend and I went a couple weekends ago (we're both in our mid-20s) and had a great time wandering around the zoo. I do mean wandering, as the maps they hand out at the ticket booth look like ancient mimeographs and are entirely in Hebrew, and signposting around the park is confusing. Never did find the lemurs. BUT we had fun, it was a gorgeous afternoon, and it was only 50 NIS for the both of us (student rate, adults are 30). Modest zoo, but impressive collection of snakes, the bear exhibit was a large, American-style exhibit with 3 beautiful brown bears, and the bird exhibit had flamingoes, my favorite! Not the San Diego Zoo by any means, but a fun outing on a nice day in Haifa. Bonus: it's the highest stop on the "Carmelit", Haifa's tram system, and within walking distance of other attractions and a variety of restaurants.
