We were celebrating a family member birthday for two consecutive days up north.
On our second day we went to the Hula Nature reserve.
Since we were a mixture of all ages, the kids rented bicycles and the adults ambled a long in golf cats (electric....quiet and with no pollution.....).
This is not the height of the bird migration season, but there was enough to see for everyone.
The trail is well paved and there are pretty spots to get off and explore.
There is a pretty little botanical garden as well.
We ordered a special breakfast which was delivered to us at the gate and we had a great picnic next to the water with birds, turtles and otters watching.......
Beautiful Park!! Well Worth the Visit!!

Like last time, in October 2021, it was absolutely awesome and much better than the Agamon since you can get much closer to the birds, fish and especially the furry ones which swim just a few meters from you.
Yes, this is one of my preferred places in Israel!
I used to go to the Agamon and on my way to it skip this reserve.
But then, the 1st time, as I had enough time I went in and it was simply like a revelation, truly.
It was not crowded, it was near the end of the day, before sunset and the atmosphere was simply unique.
Just look at the pictures: it is exactly what a Nature Reserve should be.
With so much wildlife just a few meters from you, and flowers, and water, everything was just perfect.
A beautiful experience.

Dear friends this time we are sharing the most lucrative information. So much we heard of the Hula Nature Park but every time we were doomed by finding the difficulty to reach there without own vehicle. One day it was all of a sudden while searching bus routes to go to Safed ( the artist town in Israel) we found the same bus goes farther north and gives stops to Agamon Hula Lake crossing. You may get confused by the difference in name, but we verified and also visited the place named Agamon Hula Nature Park, which is a bird sanctuary and it is not the Hula Nature Reserve. It is just 15 mins of walk from this crossing.
You can take bus no 501, 500 (Egged) from Merkazit Ha Mifrats CBS which goes directly to the site, and for the timetable check in the Egged website with the name Akhula (National Park).
Now when the journey has become so easy, you must visit this place which almost touches the extreme north of Israel. This wonderful land will give pleasure to your eyes when you will find the wide mountain ranges surrounding the green meadows and the shallow lakes are hosting thousands of birds on their seasonal journey from Europe to Africa. Israel is the major halt for them. There is no entry fee and no limitation of time to observe the varieties of these colorful flying species. You can chose any location for a better view and can take unlimited snaps. Only take care of the water and food as inside there is no restaurants. Along with a souvenir shop you will find one small refreshment shop enough for some drinks and sandwich. So now its your turn to capture the magic moment of seeing thousand of birds flying in the blue sky all at a time.

Take the tractor ride for birdwatching and not the electric buggy or Bycicles etc the tractor takes you places where you can't reach on your own with the buggy or Bycicles because of the mud. It is a nature reserve and you really close to thousands and thousands of birds migrating from north to south beginning end of September until beginning of march. Some birds even just remain there for a few months instead of migrating southward. A change seen in the south of France and Spain as well. Worth the trip. It's a 50' minutes ride in a special tribune trailer pulled by a tractor. Very impressive

There are two locations in the Hula Valley for viewing the nature and wildlife in this area. One is the Hula Nature Reserve and the second The Argammon Lake Nature Reserve. The former involves an introductory film as well as a delightful circuilar walk through swamp territories on prepared walk ways and includes observatories as well as viewing points. Wildlife is easily seen in the surrounding canals and lake. We saw coons, kingfishers, catfish, pelicans as well as Mullard water fowl. The sight is accessed by foot alone and is flat enough for pushchairs. Binoculars are advisable but not essential. A guide of the Birds of Israel is also advisable. The latter attraction area has a number of available transport facilities such as bicycles and golf carts and has a much larger circuit. Migratory cranes in their thousands are visible as well as other water fowl. Covered tractor drawn wagons take groups on tours during the day to the fields where the cranes spend their days. The two sights complement each other and I would recommend visits to both if possible

Until the 1950's The whole Hula Valley was one huge Mosquito-infested swamp with a real danger of Malaria, Yes!, It still existed then. The JNF, (Jewish-National-Fund), decided to see how to put the land to better use. They planted hundreds of water-consuming trees like the Eucalyptus.
So begins the story of one of the largest projects the JNF has ever attempted. Today it is one of the most internationally renowned nature reserves in the world. It is home to over 390 species of birds which basically means that over five-hundred million, (Yes! You got that right), birds migrate to and from the lakes, twice a year. Notice the word "LAKES" in plural. There are two lakes, (actually two parts of one lake, but you didn't hear that from me), the large lake, simply called the AGAM or "lake" and the small lake called the AGAMON which is the diminutive of the same word. This is the last abode of the now extinct Israeli Water-Buffallo. People prefer to call it by its Arabic name, "Jamoos". Here you have some of the largest Cat-fish in the world, and I do mean large. There are many kinds of other Flora and Fauna, each with its own story. The park has picnic areas, documentary movies, lectures, bicycles for hire, and is wheelchair-friendly. great for anyone between the ages of two and a hundred and two.

An amazing afternoon at the Hula Valley Nature Reserve...a migration stopover for cranes en route from cold Europe to warm Africa
A frenzy at feeding time seeing THOUSANDS of the majestic creatures flying on and over the feeding area
Lived here for 38 years...not sure why it took so long to get there!!

From October on you can see thousands, even tens of thousands of birds when you visit. Don’t go in a month like May when you won’t see a single bird. My favourite time to go is before sunset so you see the birds flying in. It’s awesome.

Wow, what an amazing place. Millions of birds stop here on the migration from Europe to Africa in the fall. We rented bikes and spent an hour touring the bird sanctuary. We listened to the music of thousands of cranes. They stop to rest and eat on their way back to Africa.

Well organized and minimally intrusive bird watching facility with genuine opportunity to view some amazing wildlife.
At this time of the year one has a chance to see many species, king fishers, pigmi cormorant, black shouldered kite, marsh harriers, herons, black and white ibis and many more.
Excellent facilities and friendly staff, most speaking english to help foreign visitors.
God day out for family or more serious enthusiasts....

Google their site:
"National parks and nature reserves"
I do not know if there are any guided tours but you have to reserve the access:
Select English language on the tool bar
scroll down till you see the days of the month and select the 18th
continue as indicated on the site
You are not required to pay while reserving the day
Enjoy

I’m planning in a few weeks. End of August will there be birds? How do you book a golf car?
Written August 2, 2019
1. They'll be the resident birds but no migrating ones.
2. This listing is for the national park - no golf carts and the circular path is only about a 30 minute walk. There is the reflooded lake nearby which has a longer path with bikes and I believe carts. Check there fir details.

I am planning for a group tour this coming November 17, 2019, will there be birds? and what other stuff we could see by that month?
Written July 27, 2019
what week/month did you go? we are trying to plan a trip for this fall.
Written May 19, 2019
I too am Montreal Born! All months are interesting but the fall and spring are most interesting due to the bird migration. Expect much hotter weather than Montreal though!

After much searching, I STILL cannot find info about how to make an advance reservation for the safari wagon/tractor pulled wagon to view birds. So, can someone give me a link or phone # if there is no link to make reservations for that and also a golf cart. I can't believe how difficult it is to find this info. Repeatedly I've read advance reservations needed but how has everyone else found out how to do that?!
Written March 19, 2019
I did not make advanced reservations.
There was no problem getting a golf cart or any other items!
You can also buy on the spot a ticket to go on one of the tractor rides ... I recommend that as the best way to watch the wild life ....
Enjoy

Many birds to see in end of April, beginning of May? We were there during the crane migration but not sure if it is worth the visit when we return. Thank you!

Not sure about this time of year, I was there in October and collected some nice shots of Griffen vultures...

Hi, is there a way to get to the reserve in late December/early January using public transport, or is a private car the only way to get there? How long would it take to travel from Haifa? Also, how many hours are you likely to spend there? Thanks in advance - don't speak Hebrew, so please help :-)
Written December 1, 2018
The visit to the reserve is at least 2 hours.
