Easily accessible via cable car. It is absolutely amazing what people have done at this time. During a tour, you can admire the fortifications, cisterns, storage rooms and even a sauna. The palace itself is located on several levels and offers a beautiful view of the Dead Sea.

This is a stunning place to visit. Not much to add to what other travellers have said other than to suggest you watch the 1980s TV series 'Masada' starring Peter O'Toole on DVD or download before you come. It tells the story of the siege of Masada from a Jewish and Roman perspective. In fact, they actually show excerpts from... More

How the were able to supply this palace with its food and water for survival of so many for all the years the refuges lived there is surreal. My favorite part of this tour was seeing all the school children. They were extremely friendly and warm. One of their projects was to ask tourist if they would take a picture... More

Seeing the enormity of this structure on top of this mountain makes me wonder how did they get all the supplies up there without modern equipment and how to build such a magnificent building.

History, scenery and exercise. Very interesting and a great way to get out and enjoy the scenery when the weather is nice.

There is another place re this site - Masada. I wrote about it there. It is my very favorite of the historical sites in Israel for a variety of reasons. You'll see an amusing film putting the site in historical context and take a cable car up to the site itself,

Well worth the trip to Masada. Herod's summer palace. Mosaics, bathhouses, beautiful views. History of the Jews that refused to be taken alive is awe inspiring.

This is part and parcel of the Masada experience. Really enjoyed read about this place and then actually going there and seeing it for real. The view of the surrounding desert is spectacular. The desert has its own stark beauty.

This was on our list as a must see when going to Israel. It did not disappoint us. We took it with an Israel tour, but if I had to do it again, I would go on my own and spend more time there. It is mostly ruins but the history and Herod's genius in building places as this are... More
