This was a great buying experience. The shop is in the basement, tastefully decorated, of the Ayasoluk hotel, which I think is a good thing for customers as the hotel reflects on the carpet shop and the carpet shop in the hotel. I was staying at their hotel for 9 days. Murselin waited for me to be ready and did not push me to see the carpets until I asked. He helped find the carpets based on my what I liked and what I had in my house incredibly fast. I really enjoyed the experience. He was not pushy and the negotiation was thankfully very short. This was a much better experience than buying in Istanbul or Jerusalem. And the carpets are beautiful. I'm lucky as the owner of the hotel/shop is in the US currently and in near my house. He is hand delivering the carpets to my house and will ensure they fit well. Thanks Murselin!

We were in Turkey for two weeks. Istanbul, Selcuk, Cappadocia and Ankara. We looked at carpets at the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul but felt way too pressured and decided to wait. So glad we did. Our experience with Black Sheep Carpets was fabulous. Friendly, no pressure, lots of information. We felt totally comfortable buying from them. Price included shipping to our home, and it arrived before we expected. Murselin and Aydin were the best. Highly recommend.

In general, they have a good selection of carpets and the store is clean and organized. However, customer service was not typical of what I've experienced in other shops throughout Turkey. The "music man" seemed more interested in "wooing" my friend and I with inappropriate innuendos and he loved talking about the mirror in the ceiling. Contrary to other reviews, there was pressure to buy something although I did not. Also, we were discouraged from visiting the other shops in that area. I've been all over Turkey and have never had a salesperson tell me this before. When my friend and I did venture out to the other shops, we experienced the same wonderful Turkish hospitality that we have many times before. So here's my recommendation: If you're traveling with other women and you stop by Black Sheep Carpets, just beware. If you're with at least one other man, you'll probably have a different experience than I described. As for me, I'll return to Selcuk, but I will not go to this store again.

We have a couple of Turkish rugs purchsed previously from other rug sellers in Turkey. So we weren't really in need of another one. But when you see the right rug and imagine it in the right room of your house, you just can't let an opportunity pass. Murselin is a great salesman but in the truest sense just wants to give you the right rug. He showed us lots of options until we narrowed it down to the style we wanted and then gave us some great rugs to choose from. We had too much other luggage and so he packed it and shipped it promptly and to our amazement it arrived in Australia 7 days after it was sent from Selcuk. Thanks Murselin. Only one rug shop for us now.

They can sell a carpet to a homeless couple! Let me explain... We are in Turkey as part of a two month trip as we move from San Francisco to Anchorage. For a few reasons, we will choose a home after we arrive there, so we don't even have an address yet. So was it silly for us to walk into a carpet shop? Perhaps. But I've always wanted a Turkish carpet and when I saw the shop, I knew I had to go in. We had shopped at another lovely carpet store but I was turned off by the pressure. My plan was to find the shop I trusted and order online (isn't everything sold online?) but of course it was a silly plan. The shop owner Ayden convinced me after lots of discussion that you cannot by a carpet that way. Photos cannot capture the exact shades of colors. And even if it is a certain thread count or type of wool, you can't be sure of the exact level of softness online. And most importantly, you have to see a carpet in person to really fall in love with it. Or as the salesperson said wisely, "You have to see. You have to touch. You have to smile." They had a wonderful inventory and the showroom upstairs is definitely where they keep their nicer carpets. After listening to me as we looked through dozens of carpets, they knew exactly which carpet I would fall in love with and they drove to a storeroom off-site to get it. (I wanted a certain look (neutral, geometric) that wouldn't clash with my modern furnishings combined with pillowy softness that would caress my bare feet everyday.) We had such a lovely time connecting with the amazing people in this shop. They were friendly and warm and even when we were going to walk away or negotiating I always felt that they were good warm-hearted friends. It was definitely worth the time and the money to have a souvenir of these wonderful people and a piece of art that I intend to keep all my life. We don't have a home yet, but today I have been convinced that if you have a carpet you love, you design the room around the carpet. And if you are looking for a carpet to fall in love with, this is the place to do it.
