This fine shop in found at the Ayasoluk Hotel and it’s worth the visit. Their selection is excellent and the quality is phenomenal. Having seen the options in Istanbul, this shop and setting was a wonderful shopping experience. Mr. Murcelin is tremendously knowledgeable and genuine with his sales approach. I enjoyed his historical knowledge of the carpets and their providence along with fun tidbits about the regions they are from. Found an amazing carpet to fit my living room with vibrant colors and incredible materials. This will certainly last many generations. Again, a wonderful selection and friendly/professional salesman in Mr. Murcelin.

During my three weeks in Turkey, this is the only carpet shop I stepped foot into because I had read nightmare stories about the high pressure sales techniques. My boyfriend and I met the owner, Aydin, one evening outside the store and just had a casual conversation with him. I could tell from the outside of the store that he had really nice merchandise, and Aydin had such a pleasant personality that I dared to go into the store. I made it clear that I wasn't necessarily planning to purchase anything, and I felt comfortable to look and ask questions without any pressure. I did end up buying a small piece (I live in a small apt. in NYC)--lovely piece at a reasonable price. Aydin is a lovely business man--would highly recommend his shop!

We had a wonderful experience here browsing through all of the beautiful rugs! The more than gracious seller, Murselin treated us to tea and a musical performance before helping us search through the enormous selection. We let him know what price range we were looking in and he showed us a great variety within that range, making sure to tell us of the materials and processes involved in the creation of the different varieties. We felt no pressure to buy at all and got a great deal on the piece we purchased, especially since we were here during the off season in winter. I hope I can go back to this great little shop in Selcuk some day.

I first found it pretty easy to resist buying a carpet during my visit to Turkey as the shop owners were way too aggressive for my taste and I didn't plan to buy one anyway. I will admit that in Istanbul and Selcuk the carpets were beautiful but I still wasn't budging, until we met Murselin and visited Black Sheep Carpets. What a difference. I can't say that I shopped around since I was too nervous even to go into the shops with the aggressive owners, but I will tell you that my carpets arrived yesterday (less than a week after I bought them!) and they are even more beautiful than I remembered them when they were laid out in the shop. Yes, I splurged a bit more than I intended but WOW, I have no regrets. I honestly think that if I had left the shop without buying anything Murselin would have been just as gracious. If you have any inclination to buy a carpet in Turkey and you are in Selcuk, this is the place to visit.

If you visit Selcuk, you certainely can't miss the Black sheep carpet shop. The wonderful Murselin will guide you around and give you all the information about the making procetsess and materials. They have verry unique carpets of excellent quality! The prices are resonable and discussable. You can easily visit the shop without obligation or pressure. Ask Murselin to play a song on his baglama! It is his second talent. You will be surprised by his hospitality! The wool carpet we bought fits our dinner room perfectly. A HAPPY AMELIEKE AND LIESELOTTE :)

This beautiful carpet shop is a must-see when visiting Selcuk. The carpets are exquisitely handcrafted and come from all over the country. The employees are kind, and not too pushy. I’ve spent evenings just sitting, chatting, and drinking tea while being schooled at backgammon. The atmosphere is relaxed, and everyone speaks very good English. The location is impeccable: on a corner downtown on a sweet little square with flowers, and just down the hill from St. John’s Basilica. I would highly recommend stopping by after your day in Ephesus.

Traveled to Istanbul a few years ago and I had the pleasure of meeting Aydin and the wonderful staff at Black Sheep Carpets. They were all very kind and spent time showing us their beautiful carpets and visiting with us over drinks and tea. Although we didn't buy a carpet on our trip, we kept in touch with Aydin over Facebook. Aydin travels to the US once per year to sell carpets and he was kind enough to visit us in Wisconsin on his last trip. We purchased a lovely carpet from him on this trip and have been enjoying it ever since. Aydin offers a vast selection of carpets &very, very fair and competitive prices. Doing business with Aydin is like doing business with a kind and trusted friend. I highly, highly recommend this business.

In general, they have a good selection of carpets and the store is clean and organized. However, customer service was not typical of what I've experienced in other shops throughout Turkey. The "music man" seemed more interested in "wooing" my friend and I with inappropriate innuendos and he loved talking about the mirror in the ceiling. Contrary to other reviews, there was pressure to buy something although I did not. Also, we were discouraged from visiting the other shops in that area. I've been all over Turkey and have never had a salesperson tell me this before. When my friend and I did venture out to the other shops, we experienced the same wonderful Turkish hospitality that we have many times before. So here's my recommendation: If you're traveling with other women and you stop by Black Sheep Carpets, just beware. If you're with at least one other man, you'll probably have a different experience than I described. As for me, I'll return to Selcuk, but I will not go to this store again.

My wife and I have been traveling across Turkey for the last week and this shop has the most vibrant and beautiful inventory of carpet sellers we have come across. Murselin, the shopkeeper, is very knowledgeable and friendly. Make sure to check out the upstairs showroom too.

If you have the time during your visit to Efes take the time to explore Selçuk and visit Aydin and/or Murselin at The Black Sheep Carpet shop. You won't be disappointed. While they are in business to sell carpets, they will not pressure you to the point of frustration. They are extremely knowledgeable about carpets and kilims and spend quality time educating the potential customer. They do ship out of Turkey. There are many options from new to old, carpet or kilim, and many color choices. We have purchased a carpet and a kilim, one old, one new, and enjoy both. We have the luxury of living in Turkey at present, with multiple shopping choices, and this is one of the best choices you will make. You won't regret the visit.
