This is a delightful trip out of Istanbul. Only about a 30 minute drive and you are at the Black Sea. Half of the drive is outside of the crowded city so you see the countryside and can stop at some small villages on the way. The fortress is ruins but still impressive how much is left. You can walk the wall along the sea. The parking lot is not paved so drive slow and their are no hand rails in the fortress. But there are areas to see for every level of adventurers. Only takes about 10 minutes to see the whole thing and then you can explore the area.

The trip to reach this extremity of the European continent is part of the fun. A good way to get away from the hustle and bustle of the huge metropolitan area of Istanbul and enjoy the seashore. The ruins of the Byzantine fortress guarding the entrance of the Bosporus makes it even more interesting. I suggest to dine at the nearby village of Garipce which offers a partial view of the majestic new Bosporus bridge.

We love exploring Rumeli Feneri and enjoy the wonderful views of the Black Sea. Be adventurous and walk around the top of the walls, but be careful on the uneven surface. You can even climb the stairs in the turret. The only downside is the horrible litter.

Rumeli hisari stood on the top off hill at the outskirts of the most narrow bosphorus Strait. In this castle there are 6 large cannon that can fire a projectile weighing 300 kg at so-called "Basilica Cannons". the officer inspected strictly me to enter this area . Visitors are not allowed to bring food into the area of the Fort. All tourists who visit there also expect to be careful if want to go up because the ladder are not completed with secure handrail.

This ancient Ottoman Castle is positioned perfectly to observe all marine traffic and activities at the point where the Bosphorus meets the Black Sea.
The views are magnificent and the Castle impressive but in a poor state-of-repair.
The sign-posting is non-existant - so use your Map - and the housekeeping of the Site leave a lot to the imagination!
However, do not let this distract you as it is well worth a visit to conclude any trip along the Bosphorus shoreline.

Right on the Black Sea. Old castle guarding the sea channel to Istanbul. You can explore all around and climb the old ruins. Really cool, but trash everywhere.

It was unexpected that the view of the BlackSea with the Rumeli Faneri Kalesi was beautiful.
There were also black and white cows roaming freely which added to the happy feel to the children
