The area
Neighborhood: Grand Bazaar
Tourists, hawkers, and locals come together at the Grand Bazaar to comb its labyrinthine passageways in search of a bargain – be it a pair of brand name jeans, a handcrafted silk rug, or a perfectly brewed cup of tea. Outside the vast bazaar, worn, narrow streets wind their way down from its lofty perch to the southern shore of the Golden Horn, where the evocatively aromatic Spice Bazaar beckons alongside the elegant New Mosque (opened in 1665). Nearby, the famed Galata Bridge offers pedestrian access to urban delights across the river in Istanbul’s more residential and contemporary neighborhoods, while the must-see sights of Sultanahmet are but a leisurely stroll away.

Beyazit occupies the very center of the southern European part. It's in between the Sultanahmet and Eminonu hosting the famous Grand bazaar Kapali carsii and the Istanbul University. Due to them it's always busy here and improvised stalls selling mostly copies are spread all around. Not a must and not a prime tourist area.

The markets are great for a look but are very repetitive & the scarf and carpet sellers become tiresome very quickly. The store owners have to pay high rent so they greatly inflate their prices. Try bargaining but I would recommend starting at four times less than the first offer and aim to get it at three times less. The people selling the same items on the many tourist streets of Istanbul sell them much cheaper as they are not paying rent.

it has the wonderful grand bazaar with over 4000 shops for souvenirs, hand made jewellery, traditional turkish clothing and more.beyazit, easily reached by tram from anywhere in istanbul, also features many shops of great quality goods with mostly cheap prices. there are especially leather bags, shoes and coats.during my first visit to istanbul,i stayed in grand rosa hotel in beyazit and i always had dinner in a nice restaurant named sar which has 2 branches that i know in beyazit.the one i like most has a salon upstairs where you eat facing the tram station and the sea behind it.but beyazit is mostly good in the day.
i bought most of my stuff from there and also it was fun in grand bazaar!

We always took tram from here and used to be in this area on all days we spent in Istanbul. It good for shopping and near to Grand Bazar. We bought turkish delights from here but however we found it much cheaper in Spice Bazar. We also bought flavoured teas - like apple tea, pomegranate tea etc.

I love grand bazaar with sooo many choices. You can find everything in here. the most important skill that you need to have is how to bargain. Dont hesitate to even say half price before climb to the agreed price if you really want to buy something. another good thing is most of seller in grand bazaar can speak english. in other area in turki the were only speak turkish or arabic . The food in beyazit are also good and cheap. However, I had a bad experience in top up my card for the train, I gave 20 TL and the mechine was not working, it took my money :(. overall, i had a great experience in beyazit :(

Usually, Beyazit is a very busy quarter. This time Beyazit Square was nearly empty, due to a whole week of bad weather. The mosque is still being renovated. Therefore, I preferred to look around Ordu Caddesi, where people were more active.

Shopping for a leather jacket in Istanbul can be easy and expensive in Grand Bazaar and its environments, I like to wander around small shops looking for one of a kind pieces in finest goat leather. The vast Laleli area descending down to the seashore from the tramline is a large shopping district for wholesale customers arriving from Russia, the Balkans and all over Middle East. Many leather shops are small family businesses which will eagerly sell even one piece if you pay in cash, euros, dollars or liras, my red jacket cost 45 euros, the lavender blue 60 euros.

We stayed at the Klas Hotel and previously at the Beyaz Saray Hotel both centrally located....minutes from Tramway and minutes from subway and 5 to 10 minute walks to grande bazarre. Wonderful for my wife and terrible for my pocket. We Also went to Taksim from here only a few stops away and costing us around 10,50 Liras round trip using Tramway. Also took the Tram a few stops away also to Eminouno where we took a Ferry to the Princess Islands and had a nice walk and lunch (fish)...costing us around 100 liras ..food and transport round trip (not bad around 30 dollars for a wonderful day). Istanbul is wonderful and a lot of fun especially for my wifes shopping sprees. I also brought my kids here last time and they too enjoyed our two week stay.

Hi,
We booked one night Kent Hotel Istanbul at Ordu Cad No:2/4 Beyazit Istanbul 34490 for 7/17/15. Does anyone knows if we took metro then Tram, which stop in Tram should we get off? Or anyone knows if this Hotel has shuttle from airport?
We are scare of the reputation of Turkey taxi driver, and think that taking public transportation is better. Any information is really helpful.
Thanks!

Take tram Kabataş-Bağcılar direction Kabataş And get Off at Laleli/University Station,yr hotel is just opposite the Station.
You can also take Airport taxi as they are reliable and use taximeter system.
Any taxi you take must switch on taximeter
