This tour was fantastic! Ayşe (sp?) provided the background and context on each delicious dish - and the dishes were plentiful! This tour provides not only good food, but also a lovely day spent on both continents. The journey to the Asian side was a nice, quiet counterpoint to the bustle of the European side. I highly recommend this to any foodie, or even someone who just wants to get some good food with good company.

Mehmet and one other tourist and I met up near the Spice Market and started on our adventure. We had "breakfast soup" - something different for this american tourist, and then went to the flower market to sit at a local restaurant to have our second breakfast. Tast of this, taste of that. So fun. Then we took the ferry over to Kadikoy and stopped at some very interesting restaurnats and food carts. I wish I could remember all of them. By the time we got to the mussels sold on the street, I was more than full. But since I don't eat mussels, it was just fun to watch. But the important thing here to note, is that Mehmet ( and I am pretty sure of his name - I hope I have it right) went out of his way to help me. I mistakenly left my jacket on the table at the Pizza place ( very good) and on our way back to the ferry, he called the restaurant. And they looked for it and found it! So after putting the other tourist on the ferry, he parked me at Iskender ( one of the restaurants) and went back and got it for me. Meanwhile, the manager at Iskender, not content to accept the fact that I did not want tea, finally couldn't stand it and brought me a sugared chestnut. The turkish people I met on this trip ( with the exception of one rug merchant) were very helpful and courteous. I recommend this particular tour and a visit to Istanbul.

Bring an empty stomach and a hearty appetite! Booking and payment couldn’t have been easier. The meeting point was a short walk from our hotel. Mehmet was our guide and did an excellent job of explaining the food as well as some of the history behind certain foods. We ended up eating things we never would have ordered on our own, but were very pleasantly surprised with the flavors. Definitely would recommend this to friends and family.

I had the wonderful experience having Mahmet as our tour guide. He knows so much about Turkish culture and history. Go on an empty stomach and only eat a little bread along the way when offered. You really need to pace yourself with 10 food stops! Around stop #4 we asked for the samples to be split up family style to keep waste at a minimum and each restaurant accommodated our request. I wanted to “tap out” at number 8 but kept going. The walk is not strenuous and is definitely needed between stops. You’ll never have a hotel breakfast in Istanbul after enjoying one the way many locals do. And cancel that dinner reservation- you’ll be so full after the tour.
