Florya beach is perfect day trip for holidaymakers staying in central Istanbul. I planned to travel there by Metro/train, but when I got to Sirkeci station I was told the lines are being rebuilt and have been closed for two years!!

A very helpful man in the tourist information desk outside the station gave me instructions how to get there using buses. Catch the BN1 or BN2 from the Eminonu bus station. The bus stop you need is not in main Eminonu bus station, but on the other side of the road opposite the spice bazaar. You have to pay to get into the beach using an Istanbul Kart, I recommend topping up before getting on the bus as there was a long queue for top up at the beach. It cost 17 Lira each, both my kids got in for free, my eldest is six.

The bus stop at the beach is called Florya and most of the bus emptied there, so we followed them to beach.

Be warned, when you get in the staff check your bags for food and drink. The beach had plenty of sun loungers and sun shades, but I went on a very busy day so ended up laying my towels in sand for the first few hours. Luckily some people left so we grabbed their loungers before someone else did.

The sea was full of seaweed and didn’t look very clean, but on a boiling hot day it was fun nevertheless. The beach was well patrolled and the life guards were constantly making noises on the tannoy which was irritating after a while.

My kids really enjoyed building sandcastles and paddling in the water, so we ended up spending 5 hours there. We bought lunch (burgers and chips) which were ok, not too expensive.

The beach had plenty of changing rooms and showers, but as it was so busy we had to queue. I made a mistake of going during the weekend, I guess it would be less busy on weekdays.

Trying to get home was quite stressful, when we got to the bus stop there were plenty of people there. Whenever a bus came is was almost full already and everyone rushed onto the bus. I couldn’t get on because I had young kids. More and more people left the beach and came to the stop so was getting stressed thinking won’t be able to get home. Luckily an empty bus came after about an hour and we managed to get on. Of course if I went on less busy day, I wouldn’t have this problem.

Thanks to the previous reviews, we decided to try this beach out as an easy day, a break from the sightseeing in the summer heat. We went on a weekday, got there around noon, still a lot of beach chairs available. Mostly clean surroundings with trash cans available, staff cleaning up (though cig buds in sand and few bits of trash in water--let's use the trash cans, people). Showers to rinse (free) and changing stalls (fee, i think 10tl?). Snack bar was fine for beach (basic quick bites, ice cream).
Started to fill up more around 1-2pm, but never got too crowded.
15tl entrance fee pp, which we didnt mind because we saw the effort to maintain the beach (cleaning crew, people manning the stalls, etc).
Aquarium and mall are 500m away, so we walked there after; skipped the aquarium, but got food at the mall: it has restaurants, cafes, food court, and movie theater, shopping, in case you want that.
If you're visiting for 7-10 days like we were, would recommend an afternoon at florya; feels 'normal', a break from touristy stuff, and water is refreshing in the summer.

If you have some time to spare and you're looking for a refreshment at the seaside, Florya beach is the place you're looking for. It's very easy to get to the Florya beach by public transport (use Istanbulkart) and it's practically the closest beach to the Istanbul's city centre. The beach itself is clean and has nice park beside it (where you can hide from the burning sun).

Florya is a place that needs a full day visit.
You can start with the aquarium, beautiful place adults and kids will enjoy it..
After aquarium you enter a big and expensive mall.
When you finish shopping you go right for 10 to 15 min walk to a public garden, it’s great.
Then you can have your lunch in a cheap governmental restaurant.
After that you can have your tea in a small cafe with sea view.
Then you go down to the beach area where you can swim or have a walk or rent bikes or scooters, or enjoy the Amusement Park.
And while you are doing all this you can enjoy the planes landing every minute in the near atatork airport.

We spent one fine day at Florya sahil, Aqua flora mall and restaurants! Florya area is different from other areas in Istanbul, very organized with wide streets.

I think this beach near to city center all of the other beaches in Istanbul . There is umbrella , bed , food court , nice sun ;) , if u want come that of taksim you can give dolmush directly go to beach or go with metro to yenigapi then change line to ataturk station and then give taxi (10 turk lire) for going to beach all of that trip as 40 minutes. Best road is metro from taksim to yenigapi then from yeni gapi to gazlicheshme(marmaray metro line) and then give taxi to beach (10 turk lira for taxi)
