The area

Neighborhood: Sisli
For much of Istanbul’s history, Sisli and the area just north of Taksim Square were open countryside used mostly as hunting grounds. These days, Sisli and its chic streets are considered the very heart of contemporary Istanbuli life, where an epicenter of fashion and a thriving business district meet to create an expressly “downtown” feel. Though largely a residential neighborhood, luxury hotels, fine dining restaurants, and upscale shops abound with many of them situated inside or nearby Cevahir Istanbul, the biggest shopping mall in Europe and second biggest urban shopping mall in the world. Shopaholics and fashionistas travel from near and far to browse the area's mix of major global brand items and creations by popular Turkish designers.

Bet Israel Synagogue is located in the Sisli district and Osmanbey neighbourhood of Istanbul. You can reach this place via subway and get off at the Osmanbey stop. This synagogue is a prominent worshipping place for the Jewish people. It is in the center of the city and you will always see people attending services. Security is quite strict and not everyone can enter as he or she desires. If you are a foreigner you need a special document to enter. It can take couple days to get permission. The inside is quite nicely decorated. It has upper (for ladies) and lower seating places. There are other rooms for lunch and dinner occasions. It is a nice synagogue to visit.

Beautiful people in an ancient location. The synagogue is old and the people are welcoming which made my visit there that much better.

I like this synagogue because it is near my neighbourhood at walking distance. It is in the Osmanbey neighbourhood with a 5 minute walking distance from the subway station. The rules to enter are strict so be prepared. You should pay attention to what you wear as well. The inside is very nicely decorated. The ladies sit upstairs while men take their place downstairs. It has special lunch & dinner hall on the upper floor. It is a clean small charming synagogue. I recomend this place to visit.
