We took a Tram from Cemberlitas to Kabatas, then took the funicular to Taksim Square. From Taksim Square, walk the length of Istiklal Cadessi to a side street Postacilar Sok... walk down till you see the Union Church of Istanbul. It is actually the chapel of the Dutch Embassy which they have been using for over a hundred years. For security reasons, bags and heavy coats go thru Xray before entering the chapel. Wonderful greeters, beautiful Praise and Worship, and the best part is singing All Glory Be to Christ to the tune of Auld Lang Syne to close 2018.

This is one of the few churches in Istanbul. Well maintained and peaceful. Islam and Christ believe is part of the history of Istanbul, today it is islamic city. Istanbul keeps and maintains both showing the long history og the city. The curch is well maintained and nice from in- and outside.

I went to the 9.30 service as I had to check out of my hotel at 12.00. I found the sign as in the picture which directed me to the back of the Dutch Consulate. The church building felt warm and attractive in red brick and plaster inside. The musicians were still rehearsing when I arrived - there was someone at the grand piano, a lead singer, someone on drums, and someone else on a recorder. I was delighted to hear familiar songs like Townend's 'The Lord's my Shepherd' and Redman's 'Blessed be your name'. When the service started there were about 40 people, I think, and newcomers were welcomed (there were about 6 of us). Later on the acting pastor gave an excellent sermon on Nehemiah chapter 5. There is normally tea and coffee at the lawn of the Consulate but because it was raining, this didn't happen the day I was there.
