Excellent food and drinks. Great atmosphere for having a long leisurely dinner with a group. If you've never been to a meyhane, you should try it. Highly recommended

We were in Istanbul for a few days and made it our goal to visit a different meyhane each evening. Safa has a great vibe, which for us means Atatürk decor, a full house, and an abundance of mezzes and raki. We think that their spicy tomato dip is probably the best we've had, and the fried little fish are... More

I am a food lover, x Italian restaurant owner and been worked internationaly (London, New York City, Toronto etc.) so unfortunately it is not very easy to make me happy with any food. For me there is nothing special here but it is also not to place that I will never go again. If I am in that location I... More

Best meyhane to go while you are in this city! Perfect mezes and quality kebabs! Make sure to drink Kulüp Rakı when you are there! You cant find this rakı anywhere else!

Actually Safa Meyhanesi is one of the oldest restaurants in town with an interesting history. But its name is mostly heard after the popular singing scene from Cem Yilmaz's Av Zamani movie. Normally I'm not very in favor of movie/tv locations. But Safa Meyhanesi really have a kind of authenticity. It's located in a pretty mid-low profile neighborhood which I... More

After many recommendations I visited this restaurant with great expectations but unfortunately I found it mediocre. This is a traditional Turkish meyhane which means a restaurant where alcoholic beverages are served with delicacies (mezes). The food was just fine. Except fried liver which deserves a special mention, the rest of specialties were not above average. The prices were higher than... More

Safa is one of the very few surviving examples of old Istanbul drinking places (meyhanes). It has the atmosphere and charm of early 1950s. The mezes are abundant and very good. The cold mezes come directly from the fridge hence cold. That is fine for some of them but many others like beans, dolmas etc. should be served at room... More
